A few weeks went by and Rebecca started seeing a guy called Immanuel. They had met at the bowling group date and he was subsequently invited to her birthday party. They had spoken but he had left early and Rebecca had ended up making out with one of the girls from the other group.
Immanuel was older than her by a year, worked at Tesco and had his own car. He took her to the cinema, ice skating and Alton towers. They started going to a regular boardgame night down at a local pub and Rebecca felt good that she had a sort of routine with him.
It struck Rebecca as surprising when he had mentioned noticing the little things about her. Like how she tilted her head to the side when she listened to someone. It made her feel special. Suddenly noticeable.
Immanuel came across as confident within himself and made the first move to kiss her. He said he wasn't ready for sex after previously being used by two girls to loose their virginity. Rebecca was fine by this, in fact she was relieved. She had only just started kissing and she was fine with keeping things there. Although she knew he would never pressure her into anything it was good that he didn't want it either.
One night they went to the top of a local climb to sit and watch the stars. They got a little lost in the dark but found their way eventually. Laying on top of a picnic bench they listened to music and drank hot chocolate. They saw two shooting stars which they were happy with. Then more came and it created a magical feeling. They later found out it had been a meteorite shower that they just hadn't known about. How lucky they had been. They went back to the car and Rebecca sat on him while they steamed the car up from the cold night.
They both avoided topics of the future. Immanuel was a romantic soul but Rebecca was trying to stay practical in her attitude. She was coming towards her exams but the dates were a good respite from her actual life. If she was honest with herself, the dates were the only things that made life worth living at the moment.
She also enjoyed the new found hobby of making out. Immanuel used a lot of teeth which felt unusual but not so much that it fully bothered her.
Once, after a month of dating, he had told her he loved her while they lay on top of the covers of his bed. Not at all expecting this she explained how she didn't really understand the word and didn't want to lie. He had said he understood and proceed to try and finger her. After a few minutes Rebecca pretended to come and asked him to stop. Rebecca had thought the discussion had ended the problem but it was brought up in a later argument that he hadn't really understand her at all.
As, while ignoring his messages one day to revise for an exam, he texted that he wanted to break up. After the exam she was furious, explaining that he could have really messed up the exam for her if she had seen the message. It was put down to a misunderstanding and a insecurity on his part.
Soon the end of summer was looming. Rebecca got into University and the discussion over their future together followed them around like a ominous cloud. Until finally that cloud burst and emotions ran high as they sat on a side street. They hadn't made it to the pub for the boardgame night, before the topic arose. So now they both sat blubbering while they discussed the fact that Rebecca didn't love him and that they should probably break up. Immanuel didn't want to but agreed, and then dropped her off home. Rebecca cried in her room and felt sad for a week. But she somehow knew everything would be okay in the end.
