Warning: There will be a short scene where a guy forces himself onto a girl. I have written it very mildly but if you think you would still be uncomfortable reading it, I have placed warning signs at the start and end in bold so that you can skip it.
Love is like a gamble. It is not an equivalent exchange. You don't know how much you will get in return but regardless how big or small the returns are, there will always be a price to pay.
Finally, after the arduous wait, the results of the writing contest will be posted on the English department board. Davin and I decided to check the announcement together and wished each other luck on our way there.
I looked at the board then turned to face Davin with a scrunched up face.
"No dyson hair dryer for you, huh." I sighed.
"I guess you will have to continue working at the cafe." Davin said, echoing my tone.
Then we both burst into giggles and promised each other that we will try harder for the next one.
Davin has another class to go to so we parted ways there and then. I was on my way back to the dormitory when someone pulled me into a room from the corridor. Caught by surprise, I let out a small yelp.
At first, I thought it was Hero again. I was all prepared to scold him and kick his shin but when I turned around, I came face to face with someone I did not expect.
"You are one of Hero's friends. From the basketball club." I said cautiously, trying to keep a distance between us without trying to make it too obvious.
[WARNING START]
"Yeah. My name's Chuck." He said as he locked the door behind him.The warning sign went off in my head. I tried to pace my breathing to keep calm. After watching so many shows, I should know better to keep my cool so that I can think better for an escape plan.
"Hi Chuck. Is there something you need from me?" I gulped, trying to hide to tremble in my voice. After a quick glance around, I deduced we were in the computer lab. There should be another door at the other end of the room but making a mad dash would be tough as all the desks would be in the way. And judging from our current position, if I showed any hint of running, Chuck has a shorter distance to that door than I do, so he could easily reach there first.
Think Emily, think.
Eureka!
The lightbulb moment that I needed.
I just needed to move slowly over to one of the desks so that I can press the speed dial on my phone without Chuck knowing by hiding my hand from his view.
"Actually, I do kind of need something from you." Chuck grinned. With every step he took closer to me, I took one step closer to a table.
"Okay, why don't we sit down and talk?" I gestured towards the seats and daringly took a few strides over.
Wrong move!
Chuck sprinted over and grabbed onto my wrist tightly. Then he pushed me onto the floor. My bottom hurt when it made contact with the cold hard floor. In a swift movement, he straddled my thighs between his legs. I couldn't escape.
While his gaze was fixated on my face, he failed to realize that I pulled my phone out of the back pocket of my jeans before I crashed onto the floor. In a second, my phone unlocked with my fingerprint and hit the speed dial for Hero's number. As subtle as I could, I gave my phone a bit of a push to slide it away from us.
