This story is not meant to be canon and is in no means meant to be taken seriously. This story takes place after the actions of Ocarina Of Time and Majora's Mask but before Twilight Princess. (So if you have not played OOT and MM then you might be a bit confused.)
Also, this book plays on that Link makes it out of the Lost Woods and settles down in Hyrule and the events Of Majoras Mask. Pretty much after Link told Zelda of Ganondorf's dangerous intentions he then departed for in search of Navi and ended up in Termina, finished his adventure there then returned to Hyrule to live those 6 and a half years he missed in Ocarina as a Hylian knight
