"Link wake up!" "Link!" Navi shouted as she bounced around Link's bed. Reaching out his hand the kokiri caught the fairy's wing and responded in a deep grunting voice
"Stop it, now." Link kept a firm grasp on Navi's wing before lightly tossing her towards the ground.
"What did I do?" Navi asked innocently. Link rolled over and sleepily stared at the small blue glow on the ground,
"You know exactly what you did."
"But we gotta meet Zelda at the castle." Navi complained, changing the subject.
"I know." Link shot back. He hopped up and stretched with a yawn. He grabbed his cap and equipment then headed out the door with Navi at his heels. Outside on his porch Link whipped out his ocarina and played his trusty steed's song. After the short song he hopped down the ladder and sprinted towards the exit of the Forest. Just before the exit Link flipped over a clear, thin rope stretched across the tunnel and continued running towards Hyrule field. Coming out of the tunnel he saw Epona rounding the corner to the tunnel. The swordsman jumped up kicked off the tree that stuck out from the others and landed mounted on his horse, who reared up and sped back through Hyrule Field headed for the castle. Reaching the drawbridge just as the sun peeked over Lake Hylia. Link dismounted as the drawbridge started lowering. The bridge stopped with a thud on the cobble and Link walked over it and into the town. He continued throughout the for now quiet town and looked at the clock on one of the stores.
"Six, my class won't start for another two and a half hours."
"What class?" Navi questioned being the curious fairy she is.
"I teach a class on how to use a sword." Link responded somewhat annoyed.
"Oh, okay!" Navi responded cheerfully.
"That's not what's going on now though, we need to find Zelda." Link continued through the town at a jog until he came to the gate blocking the path to the castle.
"Halt!" The guard's firm voice echoed throughout the small valley and he held out a hand towards Link.
"What business do you have here?" The guard stared at Link still with his palm facing Link.
"I am here to talk to the princess." The green clad hero answered just as firmly.
"For what reason?" The guard started to get suspicious, Link could tell.
"That is none of your business." The Kokiri remained calm while the guard was getting aggravated.
"It is all of my business to know that you will not harm the princess." The guard was growing impatient.
"I would never harm her." Link was surprised by such a threat.
"Leave here!" The Hyrulian man slammed the butt of his spear on the ground.
"I insist I talk to the princess." Link was sounding calm and collected but he was growing very annoyed.
"No!" The guard, now very angry prepared to charge Link the tip of his spear gleaming in the sunlight.
"What is going on here." A strong voice sounded from the top of the arch.
The guard looked up and got quite a surprise.
"P-P-Princess." He stuttered and got to a knee. "This swordsman wishes to talk to you." He informed her of Link's presence. She looked up and smiled towards Link.
"Then let him." Zelda glared at the kneeling guard still shaken by her being there.
"What, but what about the several assassination attempts."
"I will be fine." She still had a stern look.
"Yes Ma'am, Open the gate!" The guard called to the others. The heavy metel bars slid into the hill side and unblocked Link's path to the castle. Zelda climbed down to the ground and walked with Link towards the castle.
"What did he mean? Attempted assassinations, what's that about?" Link questioned Zelda with a strong voice but fear visible in his eyes.
"In the past week there have been over seven attempted assassinations but none have succeeded." Zelda remained calm and diplomatic sounding.
"Could it be that dark thing Ganondorf made?" The duo reached the bridge connecting the castle to the land. When the guards saw the princess approaching they stood at attention.
"Open the gate!" Zelda called to the soldier on the wall. The bridge started creaking open slowly but steadily.
"Navi everything all right, you look nervous?" Link looked at his long-time companian with care in his eyes.
"I don't know something just doesn't feel right." Navi flew up and peeked over the falling draw bridge.
"Ahh!" Navi quickly dropped just dodging an arrow that was fired at her.
"Run! the castle is crawling with Lizalfos."
"What!" Link whipped out his hookshot and fired at the half lowered bridge. The chain flung him through the air and to the bridge.
"Whoa!" Link brought up his shield to block several arrows that were launched at him. He then quickly jumped back down, breathless.
"We gotta go!" Link and Zelda started running across the field and down the valley side just outside the gate. They were quickly pursued by several lizard knights. The two gaurds blocking the bridge were quickly buried and massacred by the monsters.
"Epona!" Link called out for his trusty stead, no response.
"Oh fine!" The hero became quickly aggravated. He spun around, chucked a bomb at the enemies then pulled out his ocarina and played his horse's favorite song. The short tune was answered by a distant neigh and heavy hoof beats slowly getting louder before a reddish brown horse came to the top of a hill straight ahead.
"Come on!" Link dashed over to Epona closely followed by Zelda not struggling in her dress.
Quickly grasping the saddle and mounting the horse Link stared at the sea of reptiles rushing toward them. Zelda rose up and wrapped her arms around Link's waist.
"Heeya!" Link squeezed his feet against Epona's stomach and then sped towards Kakariko up Death Mountain. Just before making the turn halfway up the stairs he dropped several bombs next to the high stone walls. The explosion only made Epona sprint faster towards the village entrance. Rocks tumbled down the stairs filling the air with screeches of fear and pain as the lizalfos ran to escape the avalanche of rock and stone. They entered the town and the villagers were very stunned by their sudden entrance. Link dismounted his horse closely followed by Zelda.
"That should hold them for a bit." Link said glancing back at the rubble that now blocked off the entrance to Kakariko. "Could you take care of Epona for a bit I need to talk to someone." Link asked Zelda flustered and tired. She didn't respond but just nodded with a firm look.
"Thanks." Link walked towards the gate blocking the trail up the mountain. He continued his climb up the trail and quickly removed the tektites blocking his path. Link thought about the ambush at the castle as he hiked towards his destination.
"How did they know I would be there?" He thought out loud
"Why did they need me?" Link pondered over the ambush until a loud rumble came from above. A large brown shape was rounding the corner hurtling towards him.
"There's one." The hero dove out of the way landing just short of the edge down to the bottom of the path. But the rock couldn't hold, the ground beneath Link crumbled from beneath him and he slipped just barely managing to grap the ledge as the rock fell to the ground with a loud crash. Link heard a small crack and the stone he was hanging from started to give way. Just as the trail broke off a large, frim hand grasped Link's wrist and pulled him up.
"Hello, brother." A deep voice came from the Goron that saved the hero.
"You're just the person I'm looking for, Darunia."
