The next morning I got up, showered, and pulled on my school robes. Mary was also, awake, but Marlene was still asleep--and started snoring. Mary caught my eye and we grinned, then collapsed into silent giggles. It wasn't really that funny, but it was too early, and we were both half-asleep. My bag was already packed with the textbooks, that, according to the classes on my schedule, I would need. I double checked my Potions essay on the twelve uses of dragon's blood was packed away, and made to wake Marlene. Someone always had to do this, so Mary and I took it in turns. She usually doesn't get angry, but once she fell asleep holding her wand, and shot sparks at the hem of Mary's robes, igniting them. Luckily, we had just learned the Augamenti spell, or else, it might have been disastrous. Actually, we found it rather funny, Marlene and I did, anyway, and after Mary had gotten over the frightening fact of being set on fire, she laughed, too. I hoped that wouldn't happen now, though.
"Oi! Marlene!" I shook her a bit. She didn't do anything. "Marlene! MARLENE!" Still, to no avail. After a couple minutes of this, I seized my copy of Advanced Potion Making and hit her over the head. Mary had resorted to this tactic once, and although Marlene hasn't been pleased, it had worked. However, no sooner had I set the book on her bedside table, was I on the floor, paralyzed. This had happened to me once before, in Defense Against the Dark Arts, when we were doing some practise dueling, so I recognized it as the Full-Body Bind Curse, Patrifucus Totalus. Although I was paralyzed I still had control of my senses, and at first, a wave of panic overcame me. My eyes moved back and forth quickly, trying to see my attacker. I hadn't quite gotten the hang of all non-verbal spells, so I was stuck. Then, Marlene was in my range of vision. She muttered something and my body unfroze. I stood up.
"What the bloody--what was that for?" she yelled at me.
"You wouldn't wake up!" I informed her. Marlene just stood there, looking exasperated. Mary started laughing, and eventually I was, too, and rather grudgingly, Marlene gave up on her attempt to be angry, and joined us, laughing madly.
At quarter to nine, we entered the Great Hall, and sat down at the Gryffindor table. The three of us were still smiling widely--but unfortunately, not for long. No sooner had I gotten myself some cornflakes, than an all to familiar voice called from few places down the table,
"Evans!" I glowered at my plate, knowing what would happen next. "Oi! Evans!" I didn't look up. "Will you go out with me, Evans?" I still ignored him. "Lily Evans, will you go out with me?" He kept this up for a while, finally, I slammed down my spoon.
"NO, Potter!" I turned to glare at him. "I won't go out with you. I would rather kiss a troll!" He pouted at me, and as I passed him, I hissed, "That's not attractive!" So, he stopped pouting and smirked instead. It didn't help. I don't think anything would make his face be attractive. I know that Marlene and Mary wouldn't come right away, because they would sit there and glare daggers at Potter first, just 'cause they're nice like that! After a couple minutes, they joined me outside the potions classroom.
"Hey," I said as they neared me.
"Hello," Mary replied. She was grinning mischievously at Marlene. Marlene gave her a look.
"What?" I whispered to Mary, and she giggled. Marlene turned red, and muttered something about needing to go to the bathroom, and sprinted away. "What happened?"
"Well," Mary said in a voice that sounded like she was about to tell me the best secret in the world. "When Marlene and I left the Great Hall, someone followed us out, and we figured it was probably James, gonna ask us to get you to go out with him, or whatever--he's done that a couple times--" at which I muttered, "stupid git" "--anyway, it was Sirius--"
"Black?" I interrupted her again. "Sorry."
"Yeah, him. So, he asked Marlene out, and she said--"
"No!" I was in shock. "She didn't!" Mary nodded. "She's going out with Black? BLACK?" Mary nodded again. I just laughed. "I'm gonna--"
"--tease her for all eternity? Yeah, me too." Then we were called into potions. Severus was told to collect out essays, and he said hi to me as he took mine. I just glared at him. I'm never speaking to him again. Not since he called me Mudblood. We were brewing Liquid Luck today, or Felix Felicis, which is quite a tricky potion. It is supposed to be clear, but mine had a tint of blue to it. I looked around at my classmates' cauldrons, and saw that mine wasn't really that bad, in comparison. Avery's was a deep red, like blood, and Marlene's was a light yellow. Snevillus's (Severus) was almost clear as well. Professor Slughorn walked around at the end of class, and the class that Snevillus and I had done the best! I beamed as Gryffindor was awarded 20 points for my success.
"How did you do it?" Mary asked me after class, amazed. "Mine was lilac!"
"I dunno," I shrugged modestly. We went to Defense Against the Dark Arts, where we did some more work on non-verbal spells. I could do some less powerful spells, like Wingardium Leviosa, but doing Stupefy was impossible! Mary had mastered non-verbal spells (getting us another 10 points) and easily stunned me (we were partners practising).
After class, it was my turn to ask her, "How do you do it?", incredulously.
"I dunno," she replied shrugging, imitating me. She grinned. We entered the Great Hall for lunch, Mary sitting on my left, and Marlene across from us.
"Hey, Marlene!" I said, grinning. "So, you're dating Black?" She gave me a look. Then Sirius came over and sat next to her, and James took that as his cue to sit across from him--next to me.
"Hey, Evans!" He said, loudly, so that half the table turned around and looked at us.
"Potter," I said, curtly. I turned to Mary, but she was talking animatedly to the girl on the left of her, so I was stuck with Potter.
"Evans, are you sure you won't go out with me?" Potter said. I raised my eyebrows.
"Really?" I said, incredulously.
"Yep!" I sighed.
"Very," I informed him. He pouted again. "And that is still not cute." He grinned.
"Too bad, Prongs," Black asked him from across the table. I saw Potter nod gravely in my periphery.
"Ready to go?" Mary asked me.
"Yeah, sure!" I said, grateful for the escape route. I got up. I should've known that although he may be an idiot, but the person sitting on my other side, knew how to walk, too. Remus tried to engage him in conversation, so we could leave, but, apparently Potter does have enough brains to see though that, too. I was impressed. Mary and I still took the head start Remus gave us and and set off towards the greenhouses. Marlene isn't taking Herbology this year. I heard the heavy footsteps behind me, and internally sighed.
"Evans! Hey, Evans!" I didn't stop or turn around, but Potter still caught up with us anyway. "Evans. Evans."
"I did hear you the first time," I told him, and he grinned. Mary left to ask our Charms professor a question about the homework, but I knew that she was just trying to get me to talk to James. I swear, my friends hate him one minute, and are trying to get my to fall for him the next--fat chance that's gonna happen. (Sarcasm) Potter was grinning like a five year old given candy when she left.
"Will you go--"
"No."
"How do you know what I was gonna ask?"
"Potter, you ask me the same thing every time I have the misfortune of seeing you." he pouted again. I rolled my eyes.
"But Evans... C'mon, go out with me!"
"I just told you my answer to that question a few minutes ago," I told him in a tone suggesting I was explaining a simple concept to a kindergartner. "No."
"Aww! Come on, Evans!" He whined. Yeah, make that a very whiny kindergartener. "Evans!"
"You sound like a five-year-old!" I informed him. "And no, that's not a good thing, either!"
"Evans." He said in a mock reproachful voice, pretending to look deeply offended. I left him there, and entered the greenhouses.

Hi!So, pretty much, James is annoying, and to put it in Remus's words, needs to deflate his head a bit.
Well, I hope you enjoyed it!
