"Hey, Oopsie!" I called.

She whirled around, her eyes sparkled with recognition. "Hey, Wilford! How are ya?" She approached me hesitantly.

"I wanted to.... apologize for my rudeness last time. It was unfair of me to rush away like that without warning. I would've said sorry sooner, but... I haven't seen you around."

"That's alright. I have been really busy with the news club lately."

"Yeah... I heard about that whole thing with the Demons and Sanders brothers and Patton. It sucks."

"Majorly. It hurts me to see something like that happen on at my own school."

"Same here....but maybe we could do something to take our minds off of it." Smooth, real smooth.

"Like...?"

"Go get dinner? And see a movie? Or...whatever you wanna do."

A slow smile spread across her face. "Is this....going to be a date?"

"Only if you say yes."

"Then, yeah, heck yeah!" Her bubbliness only made the statement more adorable. She launched into a series of questions and comments about our date. She'd linked arms with me and was dragging me along at the same speed of her chatter.

I didn't mind. Her words kept me tethered to reality. Most people would find so many words at one time useless. If it was anyone else but Oopsie, I'd agree. But she's like a poet with her words, nothing out of place, every word with a meaning.

But even her talking couldn't squash the rising nervousness that was building up. I didn't want to screw everything up.

So I hoped and hoped that our date would go great. It did.

Ever since then I've never stopped hoping. But sometimes hope has a habit of putting you in a bad place.
