I stared out the window as a gleaming sun peaked out from the horizon. "Well... time to start the day," I mumbled.

Slowly, I stood from my chair and sauntered into the kitchen.

I opened the fridge to an assortment of raw animal brains. "Ummmmmm. Pig brain," I decided, taking a package from the fridge.

As I ate, I strained my brain to think about what to do next. Today, I have go to school. So I'll need my backpack. I'll also need to put on something different. I feel like I'm forgetting something... Oh yeah! The cookies I made for Patton and Jameson.

After breakfast, I shuffled into the kitchen to retrieve the bag of green and pink frosted sugar-cookies I'd baked the previous night.

Thirty minutes later, I was ready to go. I began the usual walk to school, trying hard to remember which ways to turn. I had gotten lost before, and I wasn't keen on doing it again.

Finally, I enter the school's double doors. I spotted Patton right away.

"Robbie!" He exclaimed, pulling me into a hug.

"Patton!" I wrapped my arms around him. For a moment, I took in Patton's natural vanilla-like scent.

We hugged each other like this every school day. It was supposed to be plutonic. I think on Patton's part, it was. On my part, I pretended it was a romantic gesture.

As we parted, Patton said, "It took you a bit long than usual to get here, was everything alright?"

"Yeah, I just had to bring the cookies I made."

We began walking down the hall to our first class, science.

"Really? May I try one?"

"Not right now, your gonna have to wait for lunch."

"Awww man."

In science, we sat next to each other in the first row. Our teacher was already writing on the board.

"Hey, Mr. Fischbach!" Patton greeted.

I waved.

"Hello, Patton, Robbie," He responded.

Moments later, Mr. Fischbach exited the room, just as Anti was walking in.

Immediately, Anti noticed Patton and I. He strolled over to us. Ignoring Patton, he said, "Oh hello, Special, get lost on your way here today?"

"Special" was the nickname Dark and Anti had for me, because they thought I was Special Ed. (Or so they said).

My brain definitely doesn't function like an average human's does, but there isn't much of a difference. I have memory issues, a little difficulty with emotional/impulse control, and I process things a little slower. That's all due to my slight brain decay.

"Please leave him alone, Anti," Patton said.

"No, I don't think I will." Anti slammed his hand down on the table.

I flinched, Anti noticed, and took it a step further. He leaned over the desk until his face was level with mine. He gave me a smirk and the look in his eyes was menacing.

My breathing quickened, my chest tightened, and I began shaking. I pushed my seat back. You need to get away, now! I told myself. I sprinted out of the room and I kept going with that one thought in mind.

It wasn't until I tripped and tore open my pant leg that I stopped. The fear coursing thought my veins hadn't gone yet, and I began trying to remember why I was scared.

Minutes later, footsteps sounded. "Robbie, there you are!" Patton voice called. He was somewhere nearby.

"Yeah?" I responded. I looked up to see him with an arm extended to me. I took hold of it, and he hoisted me up.

"That was a really uncalled for thing for Anti to do. No wonder you ran out! He scared me, too!"

This is one of the reasons I love Patton. Despite my differences, he is still empathetic. He treats me like he would anyone else, and tries to help me with my flaws.

As we walked back to school, Patton put an arm around me to stabilize me. I hadn't noticed my leg was bleeding severally, and that I was limping.

I rested my head on his shoulder, and sensed the worry and affection gushing out of him.

I knew Patton loved me, but I perceived it was the same way a father loves his child.

But my perceptions had been wrong before.
