CHAPTER TWELVE

JESSICA

I was feeling really good today, why wouldn't I? I got to spend so much time with Ethan yesterday, it all felt like a dream. I still couldn't believe that I hugged him twice! I mean even if the whole situation was a little embarrassing, he didn't make me look like a stupid freak who was afraid of those tiny cockroaches. I was someone who was really shy whenever I was around someone new, it used to take me a lot of time to get comfortable around them or get along with them, but with Ethan it was different, no one before him made me feel comfortable in such a short span of time, maybe because he was really good in making people feel comfortable or it was because of how I felt about him.

I could feel the growing chemistry between us, I was constantly thinking that we did have some kind of connection with each other, he just made me feel so different, so happy. When I spent time with him yesterday, I didn't feel even for a one second that it had been only a few weeks since we met, it felt like we knew each other for many years. But something was little different with Ethan yesterday, I didn't know if that was just my imagination but I caught him many times looking at me, smiling at me. It felt weird but in a good way. Whatever it was, it made me feel really good.

"Jessica Johnson standup!" I startled and immediately came out of thoughts when I heard Mr Smith's tough voice who was shouting my name "Miss. Johnson it seems like you are busy in your daydreams, we would like to hear the dream you were having in the middle of my lecture"

"I – I am sorry sir" I said looking at the ground. This was really embarrassing; this shouldn't have happened especially in front of Ethan.

"Come sit here, in front of me" he yelled pointing at the first bench. Ugh first bench sucks, I never seat on the first bench willingly. I quietly grabbed my stuff and obeyed Mr Smith's punishment. Thank god he didn't kick me out from the class, that would have been even more embarrassing. Only when I sat on the first bench, I realized Ethan was seating exactly behind me. wow! Could this situation get any worse?

"Were you dreaming about your dream boyfriend? What was is his name, yeah Damon Salvatore, right? He whispered teasing me when Mr Smith turned his back to write something on the blackboard, I shivered with this sudden contact with him. Even if I didn't see him, I knew he had his naughty smile on his face.

"Shut up, Ethan" I said trying to sound angry.

When the lecture was going on two boys, probably our seniors entered the classroom and took permission from Mr Smith to make an announcement.

"Hey guys, I am Mason Patrick and I am you senior, we are glad to announce that our school is organizing a cleanup campaign for a week where we are supposed to clean the surroundings of our school after the school hours, I am expecting a good response from you all!" he announced, he sounded really confident and he was quite good looking too, but I didn't know why he was looking at me time to time while making an announcement. We even had eye contact. It felt strange. "You, what is your name?" he suddenly asked pointing at me, wow I mean seriously?

"Jessica Johnson" I tried to sound confident.

"So, would you like to volunteer?" he asked. Why on earth he is asking only me? can't he see other girls in the classroom?

"Y-yeah, I would love to" I replied, I enjoyed doing social work so it didn't take me much time to decide whether I should volunteer or not.

"I would like to volunteer too" Ethan exclaimed out of sudden raising his hand.

"That's great, see your two classmates are already ready to volunteer, I am expecting the same response from everyone else." mason said as he looked at all the students.

"Aren't you going to ask my name too?" Ethan asked. What was wrong with this guy? Why was he asking such a childish question?

"Yeah, well those who want to volunteer can contact me on this number" Mason said while writing his contact number on the blackboard. Did he just ignore Ethan? Ha-ha.

By the time that guy was done with his announcement the school bell rang and everyone started leaving the classroom.

"Don't forget to contact me for confirming your registration" mason said to me before he left, I just nodded and gave him a faint smile.

"That guy is already in love with you" Ethan joked as we were leaving the classroom.

"Why would you say that?" I laughed.

"Didn't you see the way he was looking at you, he couldn't take his eyes off from you."

"Yeah I know right, it was weird, he even asked me my name, I mean only my name, it made me awkward."

"Told you, he is in love with you" Ethan teased me.

"Shut up" I punched him and laughed.

I loved how we both were getting comfortable with each other, how our friendship was evolving, there was no awkwardness at all. It felt good.

"Seems like Jessica got a new friend" Noah said as soon as I reached the spot where all of them were standing "How much time it took her to get comfortable with me Sarah, do you remember?"

"I guess 2-3 months, right?" Sarah replied.

"Yeah right, and how long does Jess know Ethan? I think she knows him for years"

"What is wrong with you all? What are you even saying?" I exclaimed.

"We saw how friendly you were with Ethan, that too in a such a short time" Sarah narrowed her eyes.

"Seriously? I mean this is ridiculous, Ethan and I shared the same class for this lecture, you all were in a different class, is it my fault that we don't have the same subject? Did I make a mistake of making Ethan my friend?" I snapped.

"God guys stop it, you all know Jess has feeling for Ethan" Jason interrupted "Why are you making such a big issue if she is being friendly with someone she likes, it's her life let her leave the way she wants"

"Exactly, this is the first time she has ever liked someone, why are you making her feel guilty about that, why are you comparing Ethan with you" Amara said while giving me a side hug "Guys you need to stop being such assholes, let her enjoy this phase, please don't ruin it"

"Thanks, Amie and Jason" I sighed "Sorry I got to go, I have to see Miss. Green for assignment reason, bye" I left without waiting for their reply.

The truth was I lied to them about Miss. Green, I wanted to be alone for some time, because whatever just happened between me, Noah and Sarah made me quite upset, and this was not the first time.

I didn't know what went wrong, I mean they all were happy when they got to know that the guy I liked was in the same school and class with me, but as my friendship with Ethan was growing Sarah and Noah started acting strange. I loved them and they really were very important for me, they loved me too but their recent behaviour with me was disturbing. I just hoped that everything would get back to the way it was before.
