tsukishima stared at y/n who was currently smiling by herself.

"hey idiot, time check," he demanded.

with that, y/n checked her phone upon hearing his question right away.
"uh, it's 12:20 am. should we head home?" she replied, hugging her stomach tightly which tsukki noticed.

tsukishima hesitated to go home for a while but in spite of that, he agreed. right when y/n was about to stand up, tsukki surprisingly excused himself.

"i'll buy something you can fill your stomach with before we go home," he muttered but enough for y/n to hear. "do you wanna come with me?"

"thank you. and no i'll wait here!"
"okay."

he went straight to the store, leaving y/n behind in the bench. he bought two pork buns, water and soda for the both of them and ran his way back to the place he left earlier.

"here, eat it up," tsukishima sat, settling in and giving y/n the food he bought for her.
"thanks..." she mumbled while she slowly prepared her food.
he's seriously not teasing me nor making fun of me, she thought, smiling to herself.

minutes has passed and they both started to feel the comfortable yet vulnerable state they're in but of course, neither of them decided to point it out. tsukishima took the chance to glance at y/n and saw her eating her food peacefully.

"you should―"
"that's not as easy as it sounds like, yamaguchi."

"tsukki, stop acting like you don't like her! it's not everyday you're given the chance to tell her, l-look for an opening and don't be afraid to tell her how you feel!"

after awhile, y/n glanced at him and noticed that he was looking down, deep in thoughts.

"is something bothering you?" she worriedly asked, furrowing her eyebrows at her best friend.

no reply.

"kei, are you―"
"... i like you, y/n." tsukishima softly spoke up, eyes still fixed on the ground.

"w-what?" y/n eyes widen as she looked away.
is this a joke or not??!?  y/n thought, sighing to herself.

"lamppost, if you're teasing me just to catch me off guard―"
he immediately leaned closer to her body, placing a gentle kiss on her forehead.

he looked at her eyes, feeling how hot he was feeling, aware that his ears were red.
"does that prove anything?" he chuckled.

y/n, who was blushing really hard, stared at him. she was lost for words when tsukishima showed a small smile to her. "you're really red, you know."

"y-you got me.." y/n mumbled, giggling, leaving tsukishima staring at how pretty she looked like and how pretty her laugh was. "i like you too, kei."

he looked at y/n with a tiny blush on his cheeks, sighing before he spoke.

"you're so beautiful," he muttered under his breath. "you have no idea, but you really are."

"you're embarrassing you know.." y/n whispered, trying hard to hide her red puffy cheeks.

"so, uh.. a-are we a thing now?" she added, immediately regretting the question.

tsukishima stared blankly at her and furrowed his eyebrows. "huh? no, we're not."

...

"i haven't asked you yet, have i?" he raised an eyebrow, making y/n glare at him with a blush on her face. "let me court you properly."

"w-what the fuck is wrong with you.."
"call that a pay back for what you did earlier, idiot."

it was quiet, peaceful and of course, tsukishima was obviously overjoyed.

"are we still gonna stay here until 1? your brother might get mad at yo―"
"kei," y/n interrupted.

tsukishima furrowed his eyebrows, confused. "what's wr―"
"i'll transfer to fukurodani the day after tomorrow," she replied, not bothering to take her eyes off the ground.

he stared at her, and spoke up. "why?"
"i don't have anyone with me at home," she mumbled.

"why didn't you tell me beforehand?" he asked once more, genuinely.

no reply.

tsukishima tilted his head and was about to check how y/n was doing when she looked up and stared at his eyes.

"i'm sorry. i-i never fucking knew that a lot of things would happen today. i've always thought you don't care and you won't even miss me too much but..." y/n took a deep breath and looked at his eyes, tears falling from her eyes while she gave tsukishima a weak smile. "you would, won't you?"

tsukishima slowly looked away. "shit.. aren't birthdays supposed to be happy?"

he took a deep breath and faced y/n, slowly wiping her tears. "don't cry like that, dummy. it's not like you'd be out permanently. besides, we can still text each other you know?"

"you're not mad?"

i am, idiot. you should've told me earlier, he thought.
"i'd miss you, that's for sure," he replied, sighing. "but i'll wait for you."

i fucking love him, y/n thought.
"thank you, kei.. i love.. you..." she mumbled, enough for tsukishima to hear.

he smiled and responded to y/n.
"i hate you too."

"the fuck." y/n glared at him, making him laugh.

later on, the both of them became tranquil and calm.
tsukishima suddenly noticed something weigh on his shoulder and saw the peaceful sleeping face of y/n.

he dumbfoundingly looked at her, nervously laughing. "how the hell am i supposed to bring you home?" he cursed under his breath.
you hate it when people wake you up, he sighed.

tsukishima stared at y/n for a whole minute, and decided to hang y/n's arms on to his shoulders while carrying her at his back.

"i think my back will break any moment now." he chuckled, eyes twitching in annoyance.

he walked home with y/n on his back, and a paper bag in hand where the gift is placed. and on the way home, he kept on taking quick glances of her face and not to soon, he whispered something.

"people say that love's involved with spending time together," he muttered and smiled to himself.

"but spending time apart, can lead me to loving you even more, y/n."
