Hero Green was given up at birth to the Green family, a family of muggles. She has no idea who her real parents are and her relationship with her foster parents isn't the best. They don't really pay much attention to her which has resulted in Hero basically raising herself. This has made her extremely independent, strong, and ambitious.
Unlike other students, on Hero's 16th birthday she received a letter from Hogwarts. Her biological parents tried their best to keep her away from the wizarding world by changing her last name and keeping her away from her real family. Over time, the letter still managed to find its way to her. Due to the fact that Hero's foster parents were MIA most of the time, she easily snuck away from the place she once called home and started off on her new journey.
