Song of the Chapter : I Found by Amber Run
Draco's POV
"Where could Harry have gone anyway?" Nott huffs.
Zabini and I shrug our shoulders. That question has been in my head for the past couple of days now. Whoever warned him must have done it quickly, because there's no way he would have gotten out in time otherwise.
"None of the death eaters are friends with Harry though, right?"
Suddenly, I feel my heart tighten. I try to push away the thought that enters my head but it circles my mind.
She wouldn't have.
She's smarter than that.
"When's the last time you saw Potter?" I ask.
Nott and Zabini look at each other for a moment. Finally, Zabini remembers.
"I did see him talking to Hero right after the candles blew out."
My throat tightens.
You didn't, Hero. Please tell me you actually didn't.
Zabini heads off to bed and Nott disappears to find Pansy. Once I see Blaise is asleep I sneak off to the girls dormitories. Without knocking I enter. Hero's already wide awake sitting up on her bed.
"What are you doing in here?" She whispers.
I signal for her to follow me out into the hall. The both of us quietly find our way to the girl's restroom on the second floor.
Hero's POV
"What is the reason you are dragging me to the bathroom at this time of night-"
"You told him, didn't you." Draco blurts out.
My eyes grow big and I feel my heart stop. I stay silent.
"Answer me!" I jump in shock at the tone of his voice.
"I had to." I say softly.
Draco's face turns bright red. I look down and see his hands in fists.
"You had to?" He asks. "You had to?"
"Draco, he's my-"
"No!" Draco shouts. "All you had to do was keep your bloody mouth shut!"
I take multiple steps back in fear. Draco clenches his jaw and I see the veins in his arms pop out.
"Don't yell at me." I snap.
Draco starts laughing hysterically. I watch as tears start to pour out of his eyes.
"You've gotten yourself killed, Hero!" He continues to shout louder.
I cross my arms trying to protect myself from his screams. My eyes squeeze themselves shut. I've moved so far back my body is against the wall. Draco begins walking towards me.
"He's our friend, Draco." I try to calm him down.
He glares down at me. "For someone at the top of her class, you really are stupid."
I can feel the heat from his body bouncing off of my own. When I look up into his eyes I don't see the same boy I normally do. It's the one from the night in the bathroom last year; a complete stranger.
I grab Draco's hand and press it to my face "This isn't you, Draco. I did the right thing and you know it."
His expression doesn't change. The layer of glass over his eyes completely covers the blue. No matter how hard I try, it feels as if I've completely lost him.
Draco runs his thumb back and forth on my cheek. I start to let out a sigh of relief thinking he's come to his senses. But he takes one last look at me then pushes my face away with his hand.
"You're almost as stupid as your father."
The fear in my gut turns to anger. It boils in my stomach and up to my face. Draco begins walking away but I refuse to let him be like this. If anything will get to him, it's what I'm about to say.
"I may be stupid, and maybe Snape was too," I begin. "But at least I'm not a coward."
Draco's POV
"But at least I'm not a coward."
I stop moving. I feel my heart completely fall into my stomach. Hero's words pinch at my heart and as badly as I want to scream at her, I don't. It hits me that my words probably made her feel much worse.
I turn around and stare at her standing against the wall. Her hands are in fits. I see blood falling from her lip but I know it's not from me. She's trying with everything in her not to say anything else.
My mouth opens to speak but before I can say anything Hero races out of the bathroom. I turn to the large mirror on the wall and take a long look at myself.
You are a coward, Draco.
I contemplate running after her for a while. Either she wants to be alone, or she wants me to hug her and tell her I'm sorry. Based off the way she looked at me I know I shouldn't bother her, but I can't help myself. I wipe the tears from my eyes and exit the restroom.
Hero's POV
As soon as I'm out of Draco's sight tears pour out of my face. They make my vision blurry. It's late and I should just go to bed but I know sleep is the last thing I can do right now.
Just stop crying, Hero.
The more I say it the worse it gets. Draco's words race around my mind. Does he really think I'm stupid? Even if he's right, I'd rather die knowing I potentially saved Harry's life than continue to live with the guilt.
My body is exhausted so I relax against the wall. Eventually, the tears stop. My breathing goes back to normal. I rub my eyes one last time then start heading towards the dormitories.
A loud thud comes from behind me. I quickly turn around and pull out my wand.
"Draco?"
A dark figure turns the corner and walks towards me.
"Expelliarmus!" I shout.
Their wand flies into my hand. I look down and see the snake head handle.
Lucius.
Suddenly, I feel a sharp pain in my stomach. When I look down I see a small knife sticking into me. Before I can pull it out Lucius races towards me. I rush around the corner and hide behind the nearest door.
My hands are shaking but I manage to pull the blade out. Blood covers my fingers and everything around me. I feel my legs starting to grow weak. My body falls to the floor. I put as much pressure as possible on my stomach but I feel my eyes getting heavy. I look up hoping that maybe Draco got over his anger and is looking for me. But as my eyes shut themselves and I hear Lucius' footsteps move closer, I realize no one is going to get me out of this.
