The One Alone was a gentle sort of fear. Insidious in its sweetness, its calm, its whispers of safety and escape. It is slow and patient as it consumes, numbing as it hollows you out until you are nothing but fog.
Harry had always been alone. In a house full of the red-faced anger of his uncle, of the shrieks of his aunt, of his sneering cousin, loneliness was was like an old friend. Even in the earlier years of useless hoping and wishing.
Those didn't exist very long before it was extinguished. Just as the brief companionship in the first day of school before Dudley drove everyone away.
Many are afraid of being alone, but many, too, revel in it.
It didn't take long for Harry to learn.

The first time Harry disappeared, it was in the middle of a Hunt, as prey.
It was just a bunch of kids, nothing fatal, but the fear was still there, pumping through the pathways of his veins. Running, hiding, trembling like prey. It was in this that the boy made a decision.
It was better, safer, to not have attention at all.
Perhaps it was simply a case of accidental magic. Or perhaps, his magic had called out.
And was heard.
And the boys ran past his hiding spot. And his family didn't add to his bruises.
And Harry slipped away into Fog.

It took 5 days of terror before it started blanketing his emotions into calm acceptance. Relief even, as he watched his bruises get their chance to heal without anyone adding more.
It took hours of walking in nothing but white before he simply sat down.
By the time he got out it was almost a week later, and his family wasn't pleased. Perhaps even disappointed that he came back.
It made the loneliness even sharper.

A/N: ah, lonely avatar harry potter. RIP hogwarts students... Remember Sally Anne Perkins who was supposed to be the name called before Harry's in book five, but she wasnt mentioned at all? yeahhhh in this AU in my head it was cause she got fed into the Lonely. And then Harry felt bad and decided not to feed a whole human to the lonely anymore...just their fears that goes under the Lonely domain.
