"the pain felt after losing like that is a feeling that nobody deserves to feel."
***
WITHIN THE FIRST FIVE MINUTES OF THE FIRST SET, KENI KNEW THAT THIS GAME WAS GOING TO BE INCREDIBLY TOUGH.
Keni was a strategist. She had spent hours upon hours watching volleyball games whenever she was ill. To put it into to perspective, Keni was ill a lot.
She was good at figuring out the game.
The Takitera Academy for Girls had a powerful team. This year, they were tougher than in past years.
Keni didn't know how to tell the captain that everything the captain was telling them to do would lead to the other team's point. Not everyone was a great strategist, but the captain was essentially just leading her team to their demise.
They had soared up to twenty-three points in the fifth set. Surpassing the fifteen point mark in a never-ending deuce.
But when that last spike was blocked, when the ball hit the ground on Naitoraidā's side...
It was like being stabbed in the chest. Time seemed to stop. There was dead silence for what seemed like forever.
And then it all came crashing down.
Kitami started sobbing. She collapsed onto Erina and could hardly control her breathing. Silent tears fell from the tall girl's eyes, but nothing was coming out of her mouth.
Kori was spitting curses as she rested on her elbows and knees. She was one of the three that was mere moments away from saving the ball.
Nira looked at the ceiling with half-open eyes, letting out soft sobs as tears fell down her face and neck. She was on her knees and sat back on the heels of her feet.
Keni remained standing and looked down at her feet. She had felt pain worse than this, but this still hurt so damn much. She was in pure shock.
But Miko...
Miko was violently sobbing on the ground while laying on her back. Her right hand formed a fist and hit the court repeatedly while her left hand grabbed at her hair.
Miko wasn't prone to getting upset. However, she hated one thing more than anything in the world.
