You know that feeling when you try something new for the first time? Well I think I'll have that feeling today.
Dad is taking me, Avia, and Gavin skiing. It's also Avia's first time skiing too. We're meeting up with uncle Casey, Braylee, aunt Carlie, and Cooper too. I was excited but felt nervous in the pit of my stomach. It was my dream to ski while I was in the orphanage but we almost never get the chance to do what we want.
Me and Gavin sat in the mud room putting on our snow gear. I finished quickly, pulling on my winter jacket, and tying my boots. I slid on my thick padded gloves, and buckled the Velcro making it tighter so that they wouldn't fall off. "Ready guys?" Dad smiled excitedly. "Yeah!!" We all screamed following him out to the car.
Once we got to the ski hill, we found that we had gotten their before everyone else. We decided to get our ski's and snowboards ready so that we didn't have to worry about getting ours on while everybody else was.
After waiting for five minutes, they still hadn't come to the ski hill. "Dad this is taking forever." Gavin complained. Dad sighed in disappointment. "Well, I guess we can do one run on the hill and see if that makes time fly." Dad said. "Yeah come on let's go." Gavin smiled.
Avia suddenly grabbed onto my hand. "I'm nervous Liz." She said. By the way that's what they call me for short now. We stood back and watched dad and Gavin walk towards the ski chairs. Soon enough dad turned around. "Girls come on!" He said. "No! were scared!" Avia exclaimed. "You'll be fine. Now, come on!" Dad said motioning for us to come. "Come on Avia, let's go." I said pulling her along.
All four of us fit on one ski lift perfectly. "Now girls when you get off you just gotta bend your legs, and you'll glide easily down the hill." Dad explained. We nodded understandingly and looked at the white views that Idaho has during the winter.
The trees glisten under the sun rays, and there's always a fresh sheet of snow almost everyday.
My daydreaming got interrupted by dads yelling. "Hey, Losers!" Dad yelled. "Dad!" Avia said shaking her head. I looked down over the ski chair to see Aunt Carlie, Cooper, Uncle Casey, Gage, and Braylee getting all they're ski stuff on. "What's up!" Uncle Casey yelled back, making us all laugh.
Finally, we made our way to the top of the hill. "Ready girls?" Dad asked. "No!" We both said nervously. "Gavin?" He said. "ready as I'll ever be." He smiled. The ski lift gave us a push off and we went off down the hill.
The cold wind whipped against my cheeks and ears. I skid across the white sheet of fluffy soft snow, back and forth, left and right. Avia was right next to me doing the same. "See girls it's not so bad!" Dad yelled behind us. "Woooohooo!" Gavin yelled zooming past is real quickly on his snowboard.
As I got closer to the end of the ski hill, my smile grew wider. "I did it, I did it!" I cheered. "No, we did it!" Avia said, giving me a double high five. I smiled putting my arm around her. "Smile girls!" Dad said snapping a picture. "Wanna go again?" He asked. "Yeah!" We replied in unison.
The day, consisted of going up and down the hill millions and millions of times, tiring ourselves out, and learning new things every time we went.
As the sun set we probably went up ten more times before we decided to head home. "Dad can we stay here all night?" Avia asked as dad helped her take off her ski. "If you wanna get frost bite then, ok." Dad laughed, knowing she would take her idea back right away. "Nah, I think I'd rather be warm, and sleep in my own bed." She said. "I knew you would want to come home." He smiled helping her up.
I pulled off my last ski just as Gavin was and we walked to the car. "Well I sure am hungry." dad said getting into the drivers seat. "I hope mom has a yummy meal for us." I said sitting in the middle of Avia and Gavin. "She will, I know big sis." Said Gavin. I smiled at him before dad drove off.
We pulled into our driveway and all got out. The garage walks right into the kitchen so we all instantly smelled the dinner mom was cooking. It smelt like steaks and mashed potatoes. "It smells good in here!" Dad said hugging mom. "I made this all for you hungry skiers." Mom smiled. "We can always count on you, mom." Gavin said making mom smile.
We all filled a plate with steak, mashed potatoes, and corn, plus salad and sat down as a family to eat.
I'm so sorry for not updating a lot. I had gotten caught up with work, school and church but now that midterms week is over I should do a couple updates a day! Thanks for all the reads
