“Your highness, the king has arrived”, the royal guard informed the queen who was waiting in the makeshift royal tent in the battlefield to meet the king of Rajgarh, Maharaja Abhinandan Pratap Singh. Clad in a steel-grey armor, the queen was an epitome of a mighty warrior with resentful rage in her emotionless eyes.
Nodding in affirmation, the mighty queen of Vijaygarh came out of her dwelling to meet the middle-aged king who was sitting anxiously under the morning sky on a wooden chair.
Looking at the queen, Maharaja Abhinandan Pratap Singh got up and greeted her honorably to which she responded with a curt nod. Maharani Aparajita Singh Rathore was herself a shrewd diplomat and hence, she knew the king wanted to flatter her under the pretext of getting the taxes waived but unfortunately the real reason of war had perhaps, nothing to do with the taxes she had levied on Rajgarh.Aparajita sat in front of the king with full sense of authority and gestured him to speak. The middle-aged king, on the other hand, was dumbstruck at the authoritative nature of the young girl sitting before him.
He expected the queen to be naïve and inexperienced for once, but today, all his misconceptions were cleared.
“Honorable queen, how are you doing in the battlefield?” Maharaja Abhinandan Pratap Singh guffawed with a glint of amusement in his eyes.Looking at the capable and youthful queen who was even younger than his children with immense maturity, the king was truly mesmerized her aura.
Aparajita took a deep breath and smirked as she responded, “Same as you are doing here, respectable king”.
“You are like a daughter to me and I laud your warfare skills, noble queen”, the king spoke sipping water which a royal attendant had got for him to which Aparajita returned a small smile. “Though I fail to understand the reason of this war, Maharani”, the king concluded trying to understand the emotions in eyes of the young, mighty queen.“I am amused, Maharaja ji. I am baffled that you fail to comprehend the reason despite I have expressed my demand in case of my victory.” The no-nonsense queen squawked looking at the middle-aged king angrily.
“This is what I want to know, Maharani. Why do you want to capture my father, the honorable king of Rajgarh, Dushyant Pratap Singh?” The king spoke with equal anger in his voice. Red in anger, he mumbled, “He is my pride, queen”.
“Maharani Manjughosha Devi, my mother and queen of Vijaygarh was the pride of Rathores who was brutally murdered by your father. To end this war, I want him as my captive otherwise, we can of course, continue the armed retaliation, as you named this battle.” The queen commanded with disgust in her eyes for the pride of Rajgarh, Maharaja Dushyant Pratap Singh.“What nonsense are you talking about?” the king retaliated infuriatedly as he got up and banged his fist on the wooden table trying to control his agony.
“Commander-in-chief, please bring him”, the queen calmly instructed Avdhesh Singh Ranawat who was standing few feet away and within moments, an old man was brought in front of the middle-aged king.
The stoic face of Maharaja Abhinandan Pratap Singh lost its color looking at the sixty year old man who had served in the royal army of Rajgarh as a general. Dressed in a white tunic and pajamas, the old man looked guiltily towards the king who questioned him, “Ram Singh, what are doing here?”
Aparajita smirked mentally appreciated herself to have taken a right decision before the commencement of war. The day she had decided to wage a war against the royals of Rajgarh, she had called Ram Singh to Vijaygarh. Ram Singh was none other than the retired soldier of Rajgarh who had told the truth to Avdhesh Singh Ranawat in exchange of five hundred gold coins.
Ram Singh, on the other hand, had not anticipated the direct encounter with his king. Trembling in fear, he narrated the truth once again, “Your highness! Five years ago when the armies of Vijaygarh and Shivgarh were fighting in this battlefield, you had gone in the far-east to conquer Chandrapur. In the meanwhile, your brother-in-law and our respected king schemed out a plan to kill the queen and princess of Vijaygarh. If you would have been there, this would have not happened.”
“Why was I not informed earlier?” asked the king of Rajgarh exasperatedly as he glared at the retired general of his army.
“The soldiers who came to Vijaygarh were killed by her highness, the mighty queen of Vijaygarh and their families were threatened to keep quiet by your father”, Ram Singh clarified the doubt of the king leaving him aghast.
Glaring at the mighty queen of Vijaygarh, the middle-aged king shrieked, “How can I believe you, Maharani, when you are coming to avenge your mother’s death five years down the line?”
“Your brother-in-law cleverly blamed everything at Shivgarh and suddenly queen found this secret which I verified in exchange of money, your highness!” Ram Singh spoke with his head hung in shame as well as eyes filled with fear and guilt.
“Queen, if this is the truth then, I being a Kshatriya understand whatever my father did was against the ethics of any war and hence, he deserves to be punished”, the middle-aged king spoke calmly. Pointing out his finger towards Ram Singh, he continued, “But if I find out that you fabricated a lie, then, I will definitely ruin you all”.
The queen smirked as she yelled, “I am ethical enough to not play games. I give you twenty four hours to send Dushyant Pratap Singh here otherwise I have power and capability to decimate whole of Rajgarh.”
Maharaja Abhinandan Pratap Singh chose not to answer as despite he trusted his father, he always doubted his cunning brother-in-law and shrewd sister. He knew Ajeet Singh Rathore could manipulate his father to do the inhumane deed. Taking the matters in his hands, he decided to confront his father, after all, at no cost could he support the wrongdoers.❤❤❤
