I started crying whilst Leila started to scream. I immediately silenced her voice by covering her mouth with my hand in hopes of the shadow not hearing her sound. A second later I knew I failed. I heard and a long scratch on the door and held Leila in my arms even closer to me. We both shook and shivered. Sweat broke out on my forehead and I glanced at Leila. She was pale like a ghost and could have disappeared into the wall, literally.
The scratching suddenly stopped. I pulled out the weapon I had found in the abandoned building, leaned Leila against the wall carefully and stood up. I tightened the grip on the blade and turned around to Leila again. She had curled up into a ball of sorrow and hid her face with her little and fragile hands. I felt my heart aching and tried to control my own fear.
I stepped closer to the door and opened it just to face the face of the shadow. I just screamed and stabbed forward with the blade. The shadow jumped back in surprise just like me and shrieked.
It stretched out its claws at me. I dodged an attack in the last second and was hit right across my chest. I felt pain right away and looked down to see blood oozing out of my skin. Damn it! I was seriously hurt on the first try! I immediately retracted to a corridor and was stuck between a wall and a monster. I clutched my teeth together and rushed at the shadow once again, this time attacking the lower body. It had already taken damage and bled some dark weird substance so maybe I could finish it off without dying myself.
I lowered my weapon which confused the shadow. It stared at me with hunger and confusion. As thus I saw my chance. I raised the blade and rushed right at it, passing by on the left by it very closely. I turned around just to get splashed by the dark substance, from head to toe. I checked out my wound after that and breathed out a sigh of relief, it was just a small cut on the skin, nothing major.I hurried back into the toilet and touched Leila on the shoulder. At seeing all the blood on me she screamed again.
"Monster!"
I stopped her and told her everything was alright now.
"Leila, it is me, I somehow managed to kill this shadow and am now showered in this weird substance."
"I-it is you? Wow, you are a heroine!"
Her eyes lit up right away and sparkled at me as if I was the sun of her universe.
"Yes, it is me. Sorry if I scared you, that wasn't my intention."
I scratched my head out of embarrassment and shrug my shoulders.
"Are you done or do you still need some time?"
"I am done so we better hurry back! Ah right, you need to carry me..."
Leila blushed and suddenly looked worried. She touched my chest and the wound just to scold with a single stare. I simply started to crack up over this gesture.
"How should you be a burden to me, darling. Let me carry my princess, if I shall get the go for that."
I acted as if I would bow to her and she giggled. She also played along fairly well.
"We can go, my dear nanny. Who else could you be else than this glorious heroine nanny!"
She giggled once again and stretched out her arms to me. I grabbed her by the waist and carried her in my arms.
"So how shall you rate the adventure, milady?"
"Hmm. I would say about a thousand. Who would even go all out to protect a fragile and feeble person me? Not even my brother if I am honest. He is too busy running after this female smith in our camp."
My heart sank. So even her brother turned away and lived his own life.
"So shall it be, milady. That I seek to accompany from this day on. What do you think?"
I tickled her side and she cheerfully squeaked. She hid her face in my shoulder and we continued on our way back to the camp.
