“HARRY!” I scream as he falls to the ground. As soon as I say it a large man who looks like he could be a general stumbles out of the door after Harry, blood gushing down his arm. Whatever has been going on between those two, both have come out as bad as each other. Slowly the man raises his gun to Harry, a menacing look in his eyes and before I can second guess I have my own gun held up and I’ve pulled the trigger. A spray of blood protrudes from his head as the bullet does its damage. He collapses next to Harry without another movement. I stand there in shock still holding my gun up before dropping it and running over to Harry. I fall to the ground reaching for his head and placing it in my lap, I don’t even need to check his wound to see how bad it is. He coughs causing deep red blood to erupt from his mouth. I stroke his hair back from his face, tears falling from my face.
“Who was that Harry?” I ask through sobs.
“It- it- he- was” He stutters, chocking on his own blood. “Father.” I look over to the man I just shot through the head and can see a small resemblance between him and his son. “I was supposed to kill him.” He manages to say with a cheeky grin. I let out a small laugh. “He is one of the people behind this invasion. I never got on with him anyway.” He adds slowly.
“I’m sorry.” I say.
“For what?”
“For not trusting you, for pushing you away.”
“Don’t be sorry Essie. You are the best thing that has ever happened to me! I am the one that should be sorry for all the idiotic shit I’ve done.” We sit there on the floor in silence staring into each other’s eyes and I find myself wishing that things could have been different between us. “Is that Luke?” Harry asks look over to where my brother is quietly standing. I nod and carry on stroking his soft brown hair. “I thought you were twins? You’re not blond.”
“Rare occurrence with twins.” Luke answers for me.
“Well it’s good to finally meet you.” Harry’s breathing starts to shorten and he looks at me one last time. “I sure am going to miss that gorgeous face of yours, Essie.” Harry says before his breath is cut short. And just like that he’s gone, his sparkly green eyes closed forever. I can’t hold back the tears as a familiar pain echoes through my body. I feel weak and out of breath just like the day I lost my parents. Everything goes silent and time seems to slow down. Calum and Ashton run up the hall only to stop abruptly when they see Harry and I on the floor Luke is bent down saying something to me with a worried look on his face but I can’t hear a single word he is yelling. I suddenly feel strong arms wrap around my waste and I am thrown over the shoulder of Ashton getting pulled away from Harry. I just watch him lying motionless on the cold ground as I am carried further and further away.
After that I don’t really know what happened apart from being placed into the back of another van with my brother and Ashton either side of me. I look up through the cab window to see Calum in the driver’s seat. My brother embraces me into a hug and I sink into him hoping that it will make everything better. I should be over the moon with happiness that I achieved my mission of rescuing my brother and making it out of that compound alive. Leaving someone you love behind however that has helped you in so many ways possible takes a bit of the hype away. I look down at my hands and tears well up in my eyes again as I notice Harry’s blood on my hands. Am I the only one feeling this way? As I think this I decide to not let the death of Harry have a negative effect on me, but to use this emotional and angry energy to focus on revenge. I pull myself up out of Luke’s arms and yell at Calum to pull over.
“A resistance?” Ashton questions me. We’ve pulled off the road out of sight and are all seated in the back of the van.
“Yes, a group of people fighting for their lives back. You know, have you never seen that kind of thing in the movies? Instead of hiding and avoid being hunted down by those bastards, why don’t we set out to build a clan that hunts them down.” I say throwing my arms about to add a dramatic emphasis on the idea. The guys all look at each other and slowly start to nod.
“Yeah, let’s do it!” Calum says enthusiastically. “Can we find food first though?” We can’t help but burst out laughing and agree that we can start our assassination business without a full stomach.
