Joey's POV

I want to tell Alli, but I can't. It'll break that little girl's heart, plus Caleb will break my spine. Just before Alli told me she liked me, I asked out a girl from church.

I still love Alli like she's my sister, but I don't know what to tell her. I don't want to break her heart.

I'm dating this girl who sings in the choir, her name is Morgan. She has these stunning brown eyes, and her long brown hair. Her dorky glasses make her even more adorable. I don't know what to do.

I'm up early, but I notice Alan is in the kitchen reading his Bible. Maybe he can give me some advice. I walk over to him, "Alan, I need some advice."

Alan smiles, "Okay, what can I help you with?" I sigh, "Alli asked me out, and I said yes, but I had already asked out a girl from church earlier. Which girl do I pick?"

Alan looks shocked, "Why would to even say yes to Alli?" I frown, "I don't know. She's a great girl, and I didn't want to disappoint her."

Alan sighs, "You've dug a deeper hole for yourself. You're gonna have to break up with one of them." I nod, "I know. I just wish I wasn't so stupid!"

"Just tell Alli the truth, maybe she'll understand," Alan says. "But Alan, Caleb with break my spine!" I point out. Alan laughs, "He might pretend to be upset, but if you explain the situation I'm sure he'd understand."

I sigh, knowing what I have to do, "Thanks Alan," I mumble. He pats my shoulder, "You've got this, man. I'm praying for you."

I walk over to where Alli, is just now waking up. "Alli, can I talk to you upstairs?" I whisper. She smiles, "Yeah let's go!"

I lead her into the bedroom, and close the door. "Allison, before I say anything, I love you," I whisper. "Joey, what's wrong?" She asks, looking worried.

"This isn't easy to say, but uh, right before you told me how you felt, I well, I asked out a girl from church," tears flood, both of our eyes.

"Joey, how could you? I thought you cared about me?" She asks standing up. "I do, Alli, I love you!" I exclaim. She glares, "If you did you would've told me the first time!" She storms out of the room.

I decide to let her run. I collapse on the floor, and let my tears flow. I broke her heart, poor girl, I'm her first boyfriend, and I break her heart. She's never going to trust me again, but who could blame her? I wouldn't trust me again! I'm such a jerk!

I wipe away my tears, and walk downstairs like nothing happened. Everybody must sense the tension though.

Alli avoids me, she won't even look at me. She whispers something in Caleb's ear, then he walks over to me. "Joey, upstairs," he growls.

He locks the guest room door behind us. "Please explain to me why you broke my baby sister's heart?" He says through clenched teeth.

"It was a mistake, Caleb, please let me explain," I plead. He nods, "I guess I can listen to your story."

"Well, uh I asked out this girl from church, Morgan. Then I came here, and Alli told me how she felt. I didn't want to hurt her, so I told her I felt the same way. Uh, I love that girl, she doesn't deserve a broken heart," I breathe out.

"She's pretty much got a broken heart now," Caleb points out. "I know, I'm a jerk. Go ahead and break my spine, I deserve it," I say.

Caleb laughs, "Joey, I'm going to give you time to fix this. I know you can." I smile, "Thanks buddy! I won't disappoint you!"

"Alli! Please listen to me!" I plead. She glares at me, "Why? So you can lie to me again?"

"No! I'm sorry Alli! I just didn't want to hurt you, I really care about you," I whisper, feeling hurt. "Joseph! It's too late! You've already hurt me," she retorts.

Wow, she must be mad. She only calls me 'Joseph' when she's upset.

"Give me five minute," I ask, feeling desperate. She gives in, "Fine! Five minutes."

I lead her upstairs to the guest room. Tears spill out of my eyes, "Allison, listen to me. I really do love you and care about, but more like you're my sister. I didn't want to hurt your feelings, but I realize I've already done that. I'm so sorry, I didn't mean any of it."

She wraps her arms around me. Gratefully, I hug back, glad to have her in my arms. "I understand Joey, but I'm still hurt," she says. "I know that I'm going to have to regain your trust, but I'm up for that challenge," I sigh.

"Joey, I trust you," she says, "just promise you'll be completely and totally honest with me." I smile, and stick out my pinkie, "I promise."

She hugs me again, "I love you bubby." I hug back and smile, "Love you too sis. Sorry I was a jerk." She grins, "You were a jerk!"
