Chapter 27 | We Need To Talk
Elijah's POV
It's finally Monday.
I step out of my car and lock it, walking towards the building. Shortly behind me is Veronica following my every move as per usual. She never leaves my side. Like a guard dog who's a little too attached.
"You know you don't have to follow me everywhere I go. Two seconds apart wouldn't be the end of the world."
She stays quiet.
I adjust my bomber jacket and quicken my pace towards the school doors. My eyes quickly search the room.
Alora.
She's standing outside her classroom talking to Vinnie and the girls. I want nothing more than to be near her right now. Last time we spoke we didn't exactly end off on good terms.
Just as I go to take a step in her direction Veronica appears by my side. "You're going to be late for class."
"Thank you Veronica. I had no idea of the time." I turn and make my way towards my classroom.
I wish everything hadn't gotten so fucked up. A month ago everything was going so well and now I'm back in the middle of all this shit again.
I wish I could just tell Alora the truth. Keeping things from her, dodging questions she deserves to know the answers to. I wish it didn't have to be this way.
A girl comes up to me, stopping me in the middle of the hallway, she quickly looks towards a group of giggling girls then smiles at me, "Hi."
"Hello."
"Youe name's Elijah right? Well I'm Emily."
"Emily. Well I'm about to be late for class but is there something you and your friends needs from me?"
Her face stiffens a bit, "Oh them," she laughs nervously, "No they just um- "
I raise my eyebrow at her, waiting for the end of the sentence.
She sends them a stare, quickly making them redirect their line of sight, "They're just annoying, don't mind them. Little girls and all, you know? Just wish they could be more mature sometimes."
I stay quiet. She doesn't seem like the nicest person.
"Anyways, I don't know if you're interested but..." Veronica appears next to me arms crossed and intimidating glace set in. Emily's put off for a second but continues, "I'm having a party this weekend, maybe you'd be interested in coming with me? No immature loser, invite only." Emily smiles, pleased with herself.
"Sorry but I'm actually seeing someone."
Emily's face drops, her eyes shift over to Veronica, "Oh yeah, I just assumed- that's fine."
"Just a word of advice, being mean to your 'friends' does not make you cool. Girls support girls and all that, yea? Have a nice day Emily."
She stays frozen in place, even earning a sly smile from Veronica. Emily moves towards the side and I continue on my way to class.

Lunch time finally comes around and I sit on the windowsill at the corner of the cafeteria. Veronica's left to attend a phone call while I finish my sandwich.
I see Alora sitting at her table with Bella and Vinnie. She so beautiful, inside and out. She starts to eat her lunch, laughing at whatever joke Vinnie and Bella must be telling.
