Chapter 47

Callie's pov.
"Come on Kat. Let's go. Percy told me where the entrance is. We will get Dustin back." I try to reassure her.

Kat is still sobbing as she paws at one of the bags. Then I see what she is trying to grab.

A bead. What?

"See you guys there." And with that she crushes it under her palm and disappears.

Ryan and I look at each other in confusion. Then run to the bag. Inside we find a small bag. We pack up our stuff and then pull out two more beads.

"To the underworld." We toast before crushing our beads.

The first thing I see is nothing. Total darkness.

Then my eyes adjust and I start to make out shapes.

"Whoa. Darkness!" Someone calls out.

"Are you guys coming or do I have to go alone?" A small voice calls out.

My eyes adjust so that I see a boat with two people in it. One of them is Kat.

"You know." Ryan angrily points her finger at Kat. "We aren't going to question the beads. We support any deal you struck to get them." And with that she climbs into the boat. I follow her after pulling my foot out of a broken skull.

The ride is silent until we start to see spirits floating around, that's when I speak up. "So... Are we just going to charge Hades demanding Dustin back?"

Ryan doesn't respond she just turns to Kat.

"I guess we could do that." Kat shrugs.

Both Ryan and I roll our eyes. Silence fills the boat again.

"Wait. Is that Nico?" Ryan screams while standing up.

"Sit down!" I scream pulling her down to keep the boat from tipping over. "I don't want to die!"

We pull up to the shore and we get out of the boat. Nico and Ryan embrace each other in a hug leaving Kat and I to stand there awkwardly.

"What are you doing here?" Ryan asks.

Nico immediately looks uncomfortable. "My dad wants me to stop you guys."

"Stop us from getting my son?" Kat snaps.

"Hey. Chill. I didn't say I was going to help him." Nico protests.
Kat glares at him until I nudge her to stop. "But first I have to tell Ryan something."

"Okay. We will wait." I sigh. Although this has barely taken a day I still want to get back to camp and this is taking too long.
I pull Kat away from the couple so they can have their talk.

Ryan's pov.
As soon as Nico says he has to tell me something I remember that I have a confession to make myself. Something that I haven't fully understood until lately.

"Ryan. I really care about you. I have a confession to make." Nico looks so nervous and scared.

"I have something I need to tell you too." I say back.

Nico's eyes widen. "So um. Do you want to go first?"

"No. You can go first."

"But I don't want to go first."

"Well I'm not going to go first."

"How about we say it at the same time?"

"Deal."

I take a deep breath to prepare myself with this confession. As soon as I say it out loud it will be real and true. Not just an idea in my mind.

"Three." Nico starts. "Two. One."

"I'm gay." We say at the same time. "Wait what?... Hold up... You are gay too?... We need to stop talking at the same time... Like right now."

We both start laughing.

"You two love birds done?" Callie cuts in. Which causes us to laugh even harder.

"We just broke up." Nico gasps.

"What? Why are you guys laughing then? What is going on? I'm so confused." Callie exclaims.

"Chill Cal. We are both gay so it would be weird to keep dating each other." Nico says.

"Well technically I'm a lesbian." I point out.

"Same girl!" Kat exclaims and we all look at her.

"But you have a kid." Callie says totally confused.

"So. Just cuz I like girls doesn't mean that I can't like boys too. Or that I couldn't like them before I liked girls." Kat says and Callie starts to message her forehead.

"Okay so everyone here is gay except me?"

"Yup." We all say at the same time.

"Good to know. I'm glad we got that in the air. Do we still have a quest to get Dustin?" Callie asks totally cool with the new information now.

"Seriously you are okay with this?" I can't help but ask.

She looks at me weirdly. "Why wouldn't I be okay? I actually kind of figured Nico was gay. I mean he did have googoo eyes for Percy for a while."

"Hey!" Nico says pretending to be hurt.

"Okay let's go get my son guys." Kat says starting to inch her way to the giant gate.

"Oh don't go that way." Nico stops her. "I got a short cut with will lead us right to him." He starts walking in the opposite direction and we all start to follow him.
