Chapter 22

When we get there everything is picture perfect. Paul kisses my mom and walks up to the front. There stands my dad and my soon to be stepdad. Tears brim my eyes when I see my dad. He said he would try to make it and he kept his promise. Stella sees me close to tears and blows into my eyes. "What was that for?" I ask startled. "The makeup won't smear."

"Sorry. I sometimes forget." She replies leaning in to whisper. "Don't forget to dance with you know who tonight." Rolling my eyes I walk to the back.

We get into our places and Apollo kids start playing instruments. One by one we walk up. I grab Percy's arm as our time comes to process up. We reach the alter and the song changes. The wedding march. My mom glides up the aisle and all I can think of is how perfect this is. The wedding goes by smoothly and before I know it we are at the reception. Our toasts to my new parents bring tears to everyone's eyes and after we eat our blue food dance starts. All weddings have the bridesmaids and groomsmen have the first dance so we all stepped onto the dance floor. A slow song starts and Percy leads me around the dance floor. "Ouch! I hope you don't step on Annabeth's feet this much when you two dance!" I whisper when Percy steps on my foot the fifth time.

We glance at the others and they all look like they are having a good time. Hazel and Avira are having a conversation. Piper and Jason look so cute as they expertly dance around the floor. Stella and Frank have each other in their arms as they just sway. Even Ryan and Nico look happy gazing into each other's eyes. The only ones that look uncomfortable are Annabeth and Leo. They are dancing as far apart as they can and they avoid each other's eye contact. I spin Percy so he can see them. A smile forms on his face. The rest of the dance involves Percy stepping on my feet until the song ends. Then Sally and Paul step onto the dance floor. When the song starts they put all of us kids to shame.

Their bodies move in perfect motion. We all stand there for a while watching two people made to dance with each other. I feel someone's breath on my ear. "You look beautiful tonight." I turn and see Poseidon.

"Thanks dad. I love the dress."

The song ends and he holds out his hand. "May I have this dance?"

My lips curve to form a smile. "Of course."

He pulls me onto the dance floor and we dance as if on water. When he spins me I hear people gasp. I turn my head and see people wet.

A laugh escapes me. Poseidon's eyes turn a lighter blue that match mine and I can see years of age disappear at the sound of my laugh.

He spins me again and this time I look down. Not only does my dress look like waves but it has become waves. We keep dancing until the song ends. The song ends too quickly and we are bowing to each other before I know it. But we are smiling and he looks the happiest I have ever seen him. He kisses my cheek and walks over to my mom. He kisses her cheek, wishes Paul good luck and leaves.

As he walks to the door he turns and flashes a wink toward Percy and then shoots up into the air. That's my father. Here one minute gone the next but at least he came.

Timber comes on the speakers and I skip to the dance floor. Everyone piles onto the floor as we all shout the song. Even my new parents join in. It seems like Poseidon was never here and that's how he likes it.
