I wake up in the morning to the wonderful feeling of small kisses on my neck, last night was definitely not a dream. I turn around in the bed and face Aida smiling at me as always. I cup her face with one hand and kiss her beautiful lips.

"I could wake up to that every morning you know." She tells me with loving eyes.

I grin before answering. "How did you sleep?"

"Best night I've ever had in a while. What about you?"

"Me too, and I think a certain someone helped me to sleep like a baby."

"Oh really ? Should I sleep with you more often then?"

"You better! We should still wake up now."

"Hmmm but I don't want to..." She replies like a child.

"I know but we have to do a lot, first we have to check on our supplies because I think we don't have any meat left and we have to solve this problem I think."

"Yes, I know but you're still recovering remember ?"

"Hmm so I thought that maybe you could give me a hand If we decide to go for a hunt today. If you can, of course, because I don't know about your knee now."

She takes the covers off her body and she's only in her underwear. I blush when seeing perfection before me.

"You should check my knee out, don't you think ?" She asks with a smirk.

I nod and palps it with my hands, it's less swollen than before.

"Does it hurt when I do this?" I press my fingers on the joint before looking at her. She shakes her head in response.

"Okay, you're doing way better. So will you help me today?"

"Yes, of course."

"Good, let's eat something first."

We go downstairs and eat some corn I have in a can with a cup of tea. After that, I go to the storage to count out the things we have left while Aida is reading another book she found on the sofa.

"So we have 43 cans of vegetables left, less than half of a rabbit and we have still sugar too. We should ration ourselves now, otherwise we would not last for long."

"Yeah, you're right but we'll still eventually run out of food sooner or later, right ? What will we don when that happens do you have a plan?"

"I don't know yet, I'll think about it when the time comes."

"Maybe we should move out somewhere else, in the west or south maybe ? If we could find a place with heated greenhouses and solar panels to be self-independent, we will be much better."

She is right but there's still a problem.

"Yeah and don't you think those kinds of places are all taken already ?

"Perhaps we could take them back."

"What?! You want us to take that from innocent people ?" I say to her in disbelief.

"It's either us or them, and nasty men must own those now. I don't want to die now, maybe the weather will change for the better in the future but before that happens we must survive. Don't you want to live more ? I mean we're so young."

"Yes, of course, I do, you know what we'll think about that later."

"We need to gear up and go for a hunt now."

We prepare ourselves for our outing now, the weather is great, not as cold as usual with this sun. We wear several layers of clothing. I take my bow, my knife and I unlock the door as Aida is just following behind.

"Okay so where are we heading now ?" Aida asks.

"Maybe we can go south, I never really tried to go there recently."

"Okay that sounds good. Maybe we could find something else than rabbit for once."

We go through a forest where as usual everything sound dead, no noise can be heard except our footsteps. The sun bringing out the purity of this heaven-given snow surrounding us and keeping everything in place like time has just stopped. The trees that sheltered so many with their spreading canopy of green and provided so much are now lifeless. I often check behind my back and slow down my pace because Aida is still limping.

After 30 minutes of walking, I hear a branch snapping in front of us. I ask Aida to stop walking as I hide behind a tree. I take a peek to see what made that sound and here I find a deer standing still as if he may have just spotted us. Aida slowly comes behind me and whispers : "If you're able to kill it, we'll have meat for days. Can you shoot it from there ?"

"Yeah, I think, but I'll have to kill it in one shot, if I fail he's gonna run away and I don't want to go after him for too long, especially because you'll not be able to keep up."

"You're right but it's worth the try, right ?"

"Yes, it's worth it, let me handle this and don't make a single sound, okay?"

She nods and I cock my bow with an arrow. I come out of my hideout very cautiously to not scare off the deer. I aim at it slightly over the head because I'm standing a bit far. I exhale and the arrow is now flying in the air...
