Chapter 11 Worried

The bullet hits the man through his chest, and he falls down on his knee with his bloody hands on the wound. He coughs up some blood which means his lungs are severely damaged, he won't last for long. Dana was standing far behind as she gasped in shock.

"Dana ! Are you okay ?!"

"Yes ! You fuck ! I told you not to move!"

He spits some blood on the snow before replying with difficulty "It doesn't matter now, you're screwed, if we don't come back in town, they'll know that something is up here and they're gonna hunt you down and kill you."

I realise now that he's probably right, in a few days they will know something is wrong and they will mostly find out where we live damn it.

"You can come closer now" I say to Aida.

I look down to the guy in front of me. "They may think you just ran away like cowards !"

"Like the other one ? No, we're not like that."

I furrow my brows at that while Aida is still not moving.

"What do you mean the other one?"

With the little strength he has left, he smiles while looking up at me and suddenly he falls down on the snow lifeless.

His last sentence got me confused, I don't understand what he meant and why he was telling me all of this.

"Is he dead ?" Aida asks me, finally getting closer.

"Yes, why didn't you come when I asked you ?"

"I didn't want to see that, I'm sorry."

"No, it's okay I understand."

She wraps her arms around me while whispering in my hear. "You saved me, you saved us, you're a hero."

I hug her back and I chuckle. "Maybe you're right."

She pulls back and grins before kissing my nose. "Don't get cocky, it doesn't suit you."

I smile back before frowning again. "You heard them, right ? In a few days more will come here and what will we do If they find us and the cabin ?"

Her smile fades too. "We'll think about it, we have a few days ahead of us but now I just want to go home."

"Okay, but they have equipment and I want to loot them."

I reach for their bags and find a bit of food, a flashlight and some ammunition for the rifle. I take the gun out of the hands of the poor bastard.

"With that, hunting will be much easier and we can finally defend ourselves like we're not in the Middle Ages anymore!"

Aida laughs at my joke. "Yes, you're right."

We fulfil our backpacks with everything we're able to gather and we start heading back home.

After a while Aida finally speaks. "I know it's very soon and that it's not normal circumstances right now but can I ask you something?"

"Huh, yes, of course."

"Will you be my girlfriend ?"

I stop walking and look at here before answering without hesitation. "Yes, I want to be your girlfriend."

Her lips go upwards and she kisses me on my lips and I gently kiss her back.

"We're in this together now and whatever happens we're gonna deal with it, okay ?"

I smile back before replying. "I promise you that I will never leave you and we're going to survive, I'll make sure of it."

My sentence seems to calm her and we start walking again while the weather seems to get worse. Snow is now falling again. At least it will hide the corpses of these fuckers.

We end up reaching home and I gather the food we got in the storage while I put the rifle upstairs under the bed in my room.

Aida starts a fire in the living room to warm us up and I prepare dinner, we truly are a team now and I would have not survived without her.

But we have a lot to think about now and not much time to do so. We have to take a decision about our future and it's going to be a hard one.
