Chapter 17 Explain

Aida's POV

I've been waiting behind our bedroom door for a while now and all I can hear is Dana's sobs as my own tears make their own way down my cheeks. I should have told her about all of this a while ago but I didn't have the guts to do it. Now she feels like I stabbed her in the back, I've never felt this bad in my life for a long time. I have to redeem myself somehow because otherwise something bad could happen. Maybe Dana would want me to leave and that I cannot accept it.

As I am in deep thought and my back is leaning on the bedroom's door, I hear footsteps and I turn around toward the door quickly as I speak, my eyes still closed.

"Dana, please, talk to me, open the door let me explain..."

I hear some sniffing and suddenly the door opens while Dana gives me a stern look before getting back on her bed. Her face and eyes are swollen because of how hard she just cried. I feel bitterness in my throat as I slowly get up to join her on the bed. She's laid down and her hands are still covering her beautiful face, while her whole body is still shaking in an erratic way making me grow a feeling of concern even more.

I sit besides Dana and I put a hand on her shoulder carefully, still scared of her possible reaction to this, I prepare to get yelled at but I probably deserve this after all that happened. Instead of that, Dana as she feels my hand gently stroking her starts to calm down and eventually her hands leave her face as our eyes meet, mine full of guilt, hers full of sadness and they seem dull, the spark of love and adventure I used to see before was gone.

How should I start to explain in detail all of this to her ? I don't want to hurt her more, I just wish we could be like before but even if she hears all my explanations, it's most likely gonna take a while for her to believe me again.

I sigh heavily before finally speaking: "Look Dana, I'm sorry about this, I know you must be completely shocked and angered by all of this but please listen to me."

Dana coughs a little before replying : "It's not like I have the choice anyway, I'm stuck here with you and even though I don't want you here. I don't want to throw you outside in the cold, but now that I think about it, you may want to get back with your clan." Her tone is harsh and her breathing is ragged, it takes a lot of effort for her to simply speak.

"Dana... please, I'm no longer part of their clan ! Why did you think I leave to go there honestly ? I did this because I didn't think the purpose of our clan was right, I know we needed to survive but they killed so many innocent people and I didn't want that to happen."

Dana sniffs before whispering : "Please continue."

I sigh and get back to my explanation. "Okay so I knew the leader, in fact, I was important for her, she admired my skills for scouting, but this woman... She's a former military, she's taking all the decisions on her own and she doesn't let anyone contradict her. She's resentful and cruel, so a few weeks ago, I decided to plan an escape. I told her that I could go scouting up north to see if there was anything useful for the clan. She was doubtful at first but I persuaded her and she finally let me go explore and that's how we met later in the blizzard. I didn't know what I could find up there, it was almost suicidal, but I just wanted to leave this town as far as I could go Dana..."

Dana looks at my eyes intently as she's searching If I'm telling the truth before she asks. "That woman who leads the clan, I bet she was like in that dream I had a few days ago right ? And that's why you seemed weird when I told you about it ?

I nod and say with a heavy voice. "Yes, it's exactly how you described it and that's why I was stunned by the vision you had."

Dana keeps her eyes locked in mine as I decide to slide my hand in her and squeeze it lightly for comfort.

"What's her name ?"

I look down and shake my head. "Her real name is Rosaline, but we don't call her like that, we simply call her boss. Although I have to tell you something else, Dana. Before I left to go up there, members of my clan captured a poor young girl thinking she belonged to another clan and now she's imprisoned. Rosaline asked me to watch her and I realised that this girl is very sweet, she doesn't understand what's happening and she just wants to run away from all of this like we do. Her name is Topaz and when I planned to leave, I promised her to come back and make her escape."

Dana's eyes widen in shock as her breathing get irregular. "You're kidding me ?! What about our initial plan ? We prepared defences for what then ?"

I squeeze her hand a little more. "What we prepared was not for nothing, we're gonna fight but there will be too much of them, we have several options when they come over here, we can fight for a while and then surrender, or else, you fight alone and then I come and disarm you, I fake the fact that I was spying on you and waited for the right moment to capture you. We get back there, I explain everything to Rosaline. Hopefully, she will believe me and I'll make you escape with Topaz and we can flee for good. What do you say ?"

Dana's eyes are on the ceiling as she tries to comprehend everything I just said. Her eyes are on mine after a while. "Hmmm, I don't know, what about that cabin ? They will loot everything we had. We will have nothing left, even my car will be gone. And what if all your plan you described was what you wanted to do since the beginning ?! How can I trust you now ?!"

I smile down at her and rubs my thumb on her hand. "I don't want to leave this girl alone in town, she doesn't deserve this. We may lose this cabin but there is a lot of equipment that can be stolen at the clan's base. I just have to make Rosaline believe me then I make both of you escape at night while watching for you and we can get in the storage discreetly since I'm quite good at that. We take everything we need, including a car and then we leave for good.

And about your concern, you really think I faked my injury and all the moments we had to gain your trust Dana ? No, I didn't, I love you with everything I have, I know it's hard to trust me but please try to that's all I ask for right now."

I finally get to see Dana's lips go upward in a little smile, allowing me to show her cute dimples, she sighs heavily but her eyes are now gleaming again.

I smile back myself as she finally sits on the bed and get closer to me while stroking my hair. "I do believe you and your plan may be dangerous but I'm willing to try it for this girl, for us, for our future."

I nod and my eyes are on her lips. Dana cups my cheeks and finally lean forward and give me a sweet little kiss while I wrap my arms around her delicate waist softly. She pulls back and slaps my ass playfully as my mouth opens in utter shock.

"You still lied to me and you deserve a punishment, you won't top tonight." She winks at me while smirking.

I giggle and make her fall on the bed while being on top before replying with a wide grin. "Are you sure about that honey ?"
