Chapter 5 Danger

"So what are you going to do today ?" Aida asks me.

It's been 3 days since she lives here with me and she always tell me how grateful she is about what I am doing for her. Her knee starts to recover slowly, it's still swollen, of course, but less than before, we apply ice on it very often to ease her pain and Aida doesn't need pain killers anymore and she sleeps better at night now. She still needs some help to move around but she's improving.

"I think I'm going to try to get some food for us, we don't have much meat left and I don't want to just eat vegetables to live, I need protein."

"Okay, will you be out there for long ?" She asks concerned.

"No, a few hours at most, don't worry I will be fine, and I did that many times before."

"Hmm fine, I am a bit embarrassed to ask but can I wash myself a bit if you have something like soap ?"

"Yes, of course ! I had everything planned when I left the city so I have soap, okay let me prepare everything."

"Thanks Dana."

I bring one of the big buckets that I have and a washcloth. I start a fire to let the snow melt and after thirty minutes everything is ready. She's watching me closely from the sofa and I can't help but to glance at her and sometimes I caught her staring at me. She's so cute.

"It's ready ! you have hot water in the bucket, a washcloth some nice perfumed soap and a bath towel to dry yourself ! But you need to be quick because I don't want you to get cold."

"That's great, I can't be thankful enough."

"You're welcome ! you're my guest after all. I guess I'm like a maid right now. Do I serve you well ?" I grin and she chuckles.

"Oh yes you've been amazing so far but I want to ask you a favour."

"Yes? Tell me."

"Could you help me to undress? You know my knee is still in bad shape and I thought that maybe..." she says unsure with warm cheeks.

Oh god I think to myself, I know it's innocent but still the fact that she asks me this makes my mind go wild.

"Huh... yes, of course." I manage to say after some stuttering.

She sits on the sofa and starts to unbutton her pants. I slide her pants down slowly but when it reaches her legs, she winces in pain.

"Sorry, I'll be more gentle."

"No, it's okay, thankfully you're here."

I finally take off completely her pants and can't help but watch her bare legs, her skin is very pale just like her face and she seems so soft. Damn I net to get those thoughts away, I'm sounding like a creep right now.

"Here we go, I don't think you'll need help for your top ?"

"Actually, yes." She answers me blankly.

Is she joking right now ? She's gonna make me crazy at this point.

"No, I'm just kidding." She laughs like a child.

"Haha very funny Aida." I reply with a bit of sarcasm.

"You should have seen your face ! It was priceless."

"Hmm do you need help to reach the water ?"

"Nah I'll manage thanks."

"Okay, I'll go to my room, you will have some privacy."

I get upstairs, close my door and fall on my bed. Is she doing this on purpose ? Or is she playing with my nerves ? What are you thinking Dana ? She most likely is straight, but I don't know why I feel like deep down she likes me, maybe I think like that because I did not meet someone like her in a long time. We'll see where it goes I guess.

It's been twenty minutes and she still doesn't call me. Maybe she did hurt herself ? I should check out just in case.

I go downstairs and see her struggling with her bra.

"Do you need some help ?"

"God ! I didn't hear you coming, you walk like a ghost!"

"Yeah sorry, so do you need any assistance ?"

"Hum yeah I'd like to actually."

I go behind her back and clasp her bra.

"Done."

I help her to get fully dressed and throws the used water out of the house.

"So I think it's time for me to go get us some meat."

"Oh yeah it's true, do it quickly please and be safe."

"I've done that many times before, I'll handle this. And don't injure yourself more when I'm out there. You can rest now."

I gear up to go outside, I bring my bow with a few arrows I crafted earlier in the morning and take a big coat with me and I don't forget about my snow shoes.

As I head outside, I see that the weather is still fine, there are some clouds but it's high up the sky and I don't think it will snow today.

I decide to go a few miles north of my house where I never went before, at the edge of the forest. If I get lucky, I may be able to bring back something at least.

My senses are on alert and I finally see a white rabbit just standing there, twenty feet away, it didn't see me and it's not moving. I crouch and prepare my bow with an arrow. I slowly stand up and aim at the creature, I exhale slowly and I shoot ! the arrow hit the animal in the back and it falls dead.

"Yes ! On my first try."

I take the arrow off the body off the rabbit and put it in my bag.

"Aida is going to be proud of me !"

If I can get another one it will be perfect, I walk down among the trees for a few minutes and spots another one. Must be my lucky day. But suddenly the rabbit looks in one direction and run off.

I sigh. "Too good to be true."

And that's when I hear a low growl coming from behind me and I freeze in panic...
