Chapter 15 Prepare

After we finished our breakfast, I decide to go in the storage room and here I see what I want under some mess, there are clearly bear traps with its sharp teeth and they seem all very rusty. It doesn't matter, at that point, I just want them to still properly work. The thing is, they're not easy to set because you have to open the trap and that requires a lot of strength. I have to ask Aida for help with this.

I come back from the storage with the close bear trap in my hands and it's so heavy. I whimper while getting in the living room as I see Dana watching the fire to make sure it still produces enough warmth. She snaps her head in my direction and her jaw dropped. "Dana ! Oh wow, you didn't lie about those traps !" I chuckle before telling her "Yes, and they're not light ! I will need a hand outside so get your coat and come outside with me please." She stands up, get dressed warmly and opens me the door from outside. The sun is nowhere to be seen, just white clouds high up in the sky but at least it's not snowing today.

"So where do you want to put it ?" Asks a thoughtful Aida. I scratch the back of my neck and walk a bit away from the cabin to take a proper look at it. Aida follows me from behind when suddenly I feel my foot plunging deep in the snow, I gasp in shock and my love catches my arm in time so that I don't fall in what looks like a hole ?! I lose my balance and we both fall on our backs. "Damn it ! You're okay ?!" I ask Aida quickly with fear in my voice, I fell on her so I hope I didn't hurt too bad.

As an answer I simply hear her laugh and I start giggling myself as I feel her arms around me and she kisses my neck. "What was that ?" she finally asks me still in disbelief of what happened. "I don't know but there's a hole right there ! With the snow, I didn't spot it !" She hums. "Hmmm that could be a good sort of trap, if one of them fall in there, don't you think ?" At her words, I widen my eye and help her get up with me. "You're so right, we need to check how deep it is and cover it with more snow !" she comes closer to me and whispers in my ear. "Hmmm that seems pretty deep, in my opinion." I turn back to her and she wiggles her eyebrows playfully. I slap her arm lightly and we burst out laughing again for a moment.

It feels good to be able to joke around despite the weird situation we are in. I finally take a big branch and check the height of this hole and it's huge because the whole branch fits in there ! "Wow that will be useful, if one of those douche falls in there, he will hurt himself badly." Aida nods before replying. "Hmm yes but we should find a way to attract one of them here. Maybe we could use an empty bag or something that they might want to check ?"

That's actually an amazing idea that Aida has ! We really are a nice team now, both our brains are always finding great ideas. I smile at her and agree with her idea. I take a look at our cabin and another idea pop in my head. "I think I know where we should put our bear trap ! In front of the window downstairs, even though it's barricaded, the will most likely try to open it to check what's inside. So we put it in front of it we cover the teeth of the trap with snow and with a bit of luck, one of them might step into it and injure his leg badly. What do you think ?" She hugs me in response and tells me. "That's a great idea Dana, we should definitely do that !"

We take the bear trap in front of the window to arm it. And we pull hard on each part with all of our strength. The rust is not helping here but we finally are able to set it in place. We cover most of it with light snow, being careful not to trigger it in the process. "Et voilà ! Hmmm I really hope that it will work ! And if it does, they will regret coming all the way up here." Aida sighs and gives me a peck on my lips gently. "Yes, it will work, let me take the bag we talked about earlier and put it in front of this pit, okay ?" My lips tug upwards. "Sure, go ahead."

She goes back inside and I admire the landscape in front of me, everything is so white, so pure, untouched. This is definitely a peaceful sight despite all the troubles going around in this world, the wars, the deaths. Here, it seems like everything is alright, or that in the end the world will come back in place just like before. Even though deep down I know it's not true. Why are we even fighting ? Is this life even worth it anymore ? I didn't choose it, nobody did and yet we still are trying to survive, hoping for a better future, where love shall prevail and nothing else. It seems like a child's way of dreaming but if we get through this, we have to be better and act differently about our ways of living, we have to cherish what we have more than anything else.

During all this time, I didn't see that Aida has prepared everything for the bag and she comes back to me to kiss my cheek. I smile and look at her, thinking of how much I needed her in this moment and in what's coming next. "Let's get back inside, okay ?" I nod and follow her, closing the door behind us.

The countdown is launched, we don't have much time left.
