Ruby's POV

My parents agreed to let me attend this magical school after Professor McGonagall left with my acceptance letter. She had explained to me that she will be back July 31st to take me to some place called "Diagon Alley".

I don't know why I was so surprised that they would allow me to attend Hogwarts. I honestly would have been more surprised if they didn't.

Billy decided that he wanted to get me out of the house and away from our parents. It is summer after all. And according to him I should be out enjoying it instead of stuck in my room reading all day.

I'm not gonna lie, I do need new books to read. So I agreed to let him take me shopping.

We decided to go to the only Mall in our town because we really didn't want to walk to different stores in this summer heat. I am not great in hot weather. Anything above 70 degrees and I feel like I'm melting. I very much prefer colder weather.

While we were at the mall I shopped for some new clothes and some books. While me and Billy were just walking around he noticed a sports center and wanted to check it out.

"You don't even play sports Billy." I complained. I was a little cranky from only a few hours of sleep and was ready to get out of there.

"No but I do ride bikes. And I left Silver in Derry." He said. I never understood it when people name their vehicles. It just seemed weird to call a bike "Silver" and a car "Bob", or something like that.

I think people often refer to boats and cars as a "She". I really don't understand it.

"Fine, just be quick." I said. I really shouldn't be complaining. He is paying for all my stuff. He has been working a somewhat crappy job at this local Diner during the summer. Just so we can get neccesities without troubling our parents.

While he was looking at the bikes, I walked around looking for anything if interest. I end up wondering to the skating section. There is a large selection of skateboards, scooters, rollerblades, and roller skates.

I was thinking about possibly getting something. Just to kill some time and getting another hobby to get Billy off my back about leaving the house more often.

I think I might want to try roller skating. I used to always want to try it but I never got the chance. I looked at the roller skates but nothing really caught my attention. That is until I notice a pair that looked rather interesting.

The pair in question just look like a pair of regular black sneakers, but they have a set of wheels that are on the sides of the shoe. Upon further inspection I noice that they pop out when you click the button that is on the back of the shoe. It looks pretty cool, but I knew from the price that the wheels are cheep; and the button looks like it would give me problems if I ever walk down stairs. But I'm not looking for anything expensive when it is likely just going to be a passing hobby.

I decided to bite the bullet and get them before I changed my mind.

After the sports store, Billy and I left the mall with our new stuff. Billy had managed to get one of the older and cheaper models of bikes. He didn't mind me getting the skates because they were cheap and I had shown restraint in the book store.

-Time skip-

More than a month had passed since the Professor had made her appearance and July 31st had finally arrived. I was all ready to go to Diagon Alley in a pair of black shorts and a plain red t-shirt. I had to be ready early because the UK is ahead by five hours compared to here in Maine.
