Bluewing

A few weeks passed since Mistsong became a warrior. Nothing interesting happened after that, but Mistsong seemed to fit in the Clan more.

Bluewing followed her sister back to camp, carrying a shrew, a squirrel, and a magpie. She and her sister have been hunting for the entire morning.

She dropped her prey in the pile and looked at Mistsong, who was dropping three robins and a mouse in the pile. ''That went well.''

Mistsong raised her head and looked at her. She nodded. ''It really did. The fresh-kill pile looks pretty full, so the Clan has enough to eat for the day.''

Brambleclaw approached them. ''Bluewing, Mistsong, I- oh, have you two been hunting?''

 Bluewing nodded. ''Yes, why?''

''Well, do you think you can still go in the night patrol tonight?'' The deputy asked.

Mistsong hesitated before speaking. ''I think so.''

''All right, I want both of you to patrol with Graystripe, Icecloud, and Toadstep tonight.'' Brambleclaw meowed.

 ''Where?'' Bluewing asked.

''Near the border with WindClan.'' Brambleclaw meowed. ''Is that all right?''

''Yes, it's all right.'' Mistsong dipped her head.

The deputy nodded and turned around, padding away.

Mistsong lay down next to the fresh-kill pile and took a shrew from the pile. ''I'm so hungry I'd eat anything!''

Bluewing let out an amused purr. ''Same, actually. That hunting session took all the energy from me!''

She looked through the fresh-kill pile and grabbed a sparrow. She licked her muzzle and started eating.

''Hello! Do you two mind sharing?''

Bluewing looked up and saw Rosepetal approaching them. She shook her head. ''Not at all.''

Rosepetal nodded and sat down. She took a mouse and started eating. She then looked at Mistsong, curious. ''What was the Tribe like?''

Mistsong blinked. She clearly didn't expect to be asked that. ''Well, it was great, but very different from the Clans.'' She meowed.

Rosepetal tilted her head. ''What were their warriors doing? Were they doing the same thing as Clan warriors?''

Mistsong shook her head. ''No, actually. There were two types of warriors. Prey-hunters and cave-guards.''

The dark cream she-cat looked puzzled. ''Prey-what and cave-what?''

''Prey-hunter and cave-guard.'' Mistsong purred. She looked amused. ''Prey-hunters are the cats who hunt for the Tribe. Cave-guards are the cats who protect the Tribe from intruders. They also protect the prey-hunters from dangers, such as eagles or other cats.''

Rosepetal blinked. ''That sounds weird. What about apprentices?''

''Apprentices are called to-bes.'' Mistsong meowed. ''When they're born, Stoneteller - er, the leader - chooses if they're going to become a prey-hunter or a cave-guard.''
