"You know I have feelings for you?"
The warm feeling that enveloped (Y/N) was addicting as she leaned into Cedric, giggling. His voice was soft as they sat on top of the hill, watching the sun go down. The sunset cast oranges, purples, and pinks across the sky as his arms wrapped around her waist.
"You don't know how long I've been waiting to hear that." He laughed and she leaned over to kiss his cheek. "Been keeping me waiting long enough, Diggory."
The two sat in silence as the sun sank below the horizon, the two teenagers cuddling. The wind was chilly as (Y/N) shivered. Cedric wrapped his coat he'd brought with him around her shoulders. "Excited for the new school year?"
She nodded. "Yeah. Especially Care of Magical Creatures." she smiled at the thought. "Hagrid is so knowledgeable about every little creature he shows us. Plus, we get to be outside the dreary castle walls for a while and soak up the sunshine."
Cedric laughed. "And that's why you were sorted into Hufflepuff."
(Y/N) laughed with him. "Hey! You're a Hufflepuff too, you know."
The smile was ever-present on Cedric's face as they finished watching the sunset, looking forward to what their future would be.

"I know you're mad at me, but will a kiss change your mind?" Cedric pulled his infamous smile as (Y/N) stared him down, failing at keeping her serious composure.
"Fine!" She laughed and Cedric stole his kiss. Then, he revealed the tickets he had been hiding in the back pocket of his jeans.
"Actually, dad got us and the Weasley's tickets," he smirked and laughed, and she went in for a hug.
"You are literally the best!" (Y/N) gave his cheek a kiss. "The World Cup is gonna be awesome."
Cedric nodded in agreement. "Just remember to pack warm clothes. It'll be cold, and I don't want you catching a cold."
(Y/N) smiled as she settled into hugging him. "You're so sweet, Cedric."

The roar of the crowd had slowly become background noise as the game went on. (Y/N) stood next to Cedric as they cheered, and despite Bulgaria's Seeker catching the snitch, Ireland won the game. The group all walked back together to camp, (Y/N) and Cedric lagging behind some as they held hands.
"That was absolutely thrilling!" she spoke, recounting the game. "Ireland's really talented to be able to pull ahead like that. Bulgaria's seeker, Krum, is really talented so they probably focused on scoring more instead of catching the snitch!"
Cedric smiled and lifted their hands, kissing her knuckles. "You're so cute."
(Y/N) looked over at him with a smirk. "I know."
He laughed and they headed into their tent, only to flee a few hours later as Death Eaters combed through the camp, lighting the tents on fire.

Fourth-year started as quickly as it came. (Y/N) had been focusing on her classes and spending time with Cedric. Yet, as the first few weeks went by, it felt like he had been drifting away. She found herself spending time with Eris and Lucia; two of her friends that she met her first year at Hogwarts.
"I'm telling you, (Y/N), something seems off about this. You and Cedric are always seen together. Attached at the hip," Eris spoke as the three of them hung out down by the lake.
"Eris has a point, (Y/N)," Lucia added softly.
She sighed. "I'm sure Cedric just has to ease into his classes, just like we had too."
The two were silent before Eris pointed to a figure in the distance. "Then why is Cedric coming this way?"
(Y/N) turned around with a smile on her face, standing up. Cedric's hands were in his pockets as he looked at her. Before she could even say hi or kiss his cheek, he broke the news.
"I'm breaking up with you."
The air was still between the group. "What?" (Y/N)'s voice was quiet and cracked when she spoke.
"I'm sorry, (Y/N)." He didn't give any explanation as he hurried back up the hill and into the castle. She sunk back to the ground next to Eris and Lucia, who were just as shocked.
Eris was the first to speak. "Well, that's one way to start the school year."
Because hearts get broken

A.N: Hello all! It's been about ten months since I published anything, but I'm excited to say that 'Fine Line' is the first work I've completed during that time. I admit I took a lot of breaks between these chapters because I couldn't find the inspiration/motivation to complete it.
That being said, this is probably going to be the only author's note in this story, since I can't think of a reason to put one after the end of every chapter. That being said, I'll see you at 'The End'!
I hope you enjoyed this first chapter of 'Fine Line' and look forward to what's to come! I really liked how this story turned out and I hope you do too.
Feel free to vote, comment, and share with your friends!
Until next time,
~Em
