That night after the champions were chosen kept replaying in (Y/N)'s mind. The way her heart ached when he said that breaking up with her wasn't a mistake. It hurt, she wouldn't lie about that. However, she pushed those feelings down and focused on her schoolwork between worrying about the tournament.

She'd actually been spending a lot of time down by the Black Lake in her thoughts. She wrote them down sometimes, just so they weren't plaguing her mind. She felt bad neglecting Eris, Lucia, Fleur, and the others, but she felt she needed the alone time to be able to focus.

It was another quiet day down by the lake. (Y/N) sat under one of the trees in the shade, her quill gliding over her parchment as she finished out an essay for class. She'd been so pulled in and focused on finishing that she hadn't heard the footsteps approaching.

Draco wasn't one to hang out near the lake. He typically lounged around the Slytherin common room talking with Crabbe and Goyle, but when he saw Eris in there earlier, he couldn't help but ask her about (Y/N). He told her he wanted to properly thank her for helping him out with Care of Magical Creatures. That was how he figured out she liked to hang out near the lake.

"(Y/N)?" he spoke, and she turned to him. She gave him a shy smile and set aside her parchment.

"Hi, Draco. I didn't hear you walk up, apologies." she ran a hand through her hair. "Did you need help with Magical Creatures homework?"

"Actually no," he chuckled and sat down beside her. "I came by to properly introduce myself."

She laughed, and he couldn't help but smile. "Well, it's nice to finally meet you. (Y/N) (L/N)."

    "Draco Malfoy, and likewise."

The two were silent as they watched the wind ruffle the sails on Durmstrang's ship. With a deep breath, Draco turned to ask her what had been on his mind. "So, you seemed pretty upset that Cedric got chosen for champion," he observed the way she bit her lip and how her eyes were focused on the grass below them, downcast. "Something tells me there's more to it."

He knew there was; Eris had explained it that night. He just wanted to hear it from her.

"Cedric and I used to date." (Y/N) shrugged and sighed. "I worry for him, even though we're not together anymore."

He nodded, deciding to drop the subject before he smiled softly. "Now that I think about it, do you have any tips about nifflers I need to know before class?"

That seemed to brighten her mood as she started rambling about what he should and shouldn't bring to Magical Creatures the next few lessons.

As the weeks went by, Draco seemed to be meeting (Y/N) down by the lake more often. They typically worked on their Magical Creatures homework, since she didn't mind helping him out. They'd spend hours down there, working and chatting. They were quick to become friends the more time they spent together.

Eris and Lucia happened to be on their way down to the lake to spend some time with (Y/N) when they heard her laugh from where they were. Eris held a hand out as a signal to slow and listen, and when the two came to a halt, she smiled.

"What is it, Eris?" Lucia asked her quietly.

The Slytherin turned to Lucia and pointed out the two figures. "That's (Y/N) down there, but she isn't alone. Draco's down there!"

Lucia's face scrunched up. "What? There's no way-"

Eris was quick to interrupt. "Lu, he asked me a couple of weeks ago where to find her, and I told him the lake. He's been spending less time in the common room." she couldn't contain her excitement. "This has to be where he's been. Even Pansy's been confused about where he's been."

Lucia frowned slightly. "Alright, he won't try and hurt (Y/N) in any way, will he?"

Eris took her hand and gently squeezed it in reassurance. "No way. In fact, I think he might be helping her get over Cedric." she started pulling her back toward the castle. "C'mon Lu. Let's give them some alone time and we can go to study in the library."

That night at dinner, (Y/N) sat down at the Hufflepuff table with a smile on her face. Lucia wasn't the only one to notice as Fleur pointed it out. "You seem happy, (Y/N). Did you have a good day?"

(Y/N) was surprised that her friends were able to pick up on her new mood so quickly. "I did have a good day, Fleur. I hope you guys did too."

Lucia couldn't hold in her giggles. "Was it because you practically spent the whole afternoon with Draco down by the lake?"

(Y/N)'s face flushed red as Fleur gasped. "So we've been hanging out. What's the big deal?"

The girls didn't say anything as they giggled in excitement, and (Y/N) shook her head. They continued dinner as they changed subjects, mentioning how heavy the potions homework was starting to become. Soon after that though, Fleur yawned.

"We should head back. Fleur needs rest for tomorrow." Lucia spoke, standing.

"Tomorrow?" (Y/N) asked, then realized. "The first task already?"

Fleur nodded in confirmation and bid the two girls goodnight. Lucia and (Y/N) headed for the Hufflepuff dorms, Lucia teasing her about Draco on the way there.
