A gentle blanket of white snow settled across the castle, but the students inside were enjoying the cozy spirit as the holidays drew closer, as well as the Yule Ball. Unlike years prior, where students would be buzzing about finals before winter break, it seemed all anybody could talk about was the dance.
Even though (Y/N) was excited just like her peers, she still tried to focus on her schoolwork. In preparation for the dance, she wanted to get everything done so she could enjoy her time at the dance with her friends and with Draco.
"Hey, (Y/N/N)," Lucia poked her shoulder and the other Hufflepuff turned to her friend. "Eris, Fleur, and I are thinking that on the last trip to Hogsmeade, we're gonna get our dresses. Dmitri and his date, Aleksander, want to come too to provide feedback. You in?"
(Y/N) finished answering the next question on the study guide before answering Lucia's question. "Sounds like fun. Just make sure you get them to finish their work for the semester." she giggled softly, and she could tell that Lucia was excited by the way she focused on her work.
Another poke. "We're meeting at 9 AM sharp, alright?"
"I got it, Lucia!" she giggled and the two girls finally worked in silence.

"I'm starting to think that perhaps pink is not my color."
With school finally being out for the winter break, students were enjoying their last Hogsmeade trip before going home for the holidays. (Y/N), Eris, Lucia, Fleur, Dmitri, and Aleksander were in the tiny dress shop, watching as Lucia tried on dress after dress.
Right now the other Hufflepuff was standing in front of the mirror, contemplating the look for the mermaid-style gown. Dmitri and Aleksander had gotten their suits, Fleur had picked out a pretty silver dress with a green accent, and Eris was holding her dark emerald green party dress. Lucia had been too excited to try things on next, which left (Y/N) to find her dress.
Aleksander spoke up to break the thoughtful silence. "I think you're right about that." he handed his suit to Dmitri, disappeared into the racks before emerging with a pastel yellow ball gown. "Try this one, Lucy. I think it might be more up your alley."
Lucia disappeared to change into the yellow dress, and Dmitri wrapped his arms around Aleks with a smile. "I think you found her dress."
Eris gave him an equally large smile. "I agree. Yellow is totally her color."
(Y/N) tapped his arm. "Aleks, got any suggestions for me?"
The group laughed, their attention falling to Lucia who was beaming in the yellow ball gown. "Aleks, you're a genius."
"That dress is absolutely breathtaking on you, Lu!" Fleur chirped, clapping her hands in excitement.
The others rang out their praises before Lucia hurried back to change. Meanwhile, Aleks slipped away to find a dress for (Y/N) to try on while they went to pay. He came back with a dress that had a green skirt and a white top. "I think this one will work perfectly," he explained.
Part of (Y/N) thought that the green was because Draco was taking her to the ball, but once she had the dress on, she knew Aleks was right. With a light blush on her face, she stepped out for her friends to see. "Oh my gosh, (Y/N/N)!" Lucia's voice was heard first in an excited squeal.
Eris clapped to show how impressed she was with Aleks' pick, and Fleur gave her a thumbs up. "You never cease to amaze me, Aleks." Dmitri laughed, kissing his cheek.
"Aleks," (Y/N) couldn't help her smile as she admired herself in the mirror. "I think this is the one."
Once more applause rang out from her friends, and she quickly went to change before paying for the dress; their laughter and chatter about the upcoming event echoing throughout the air.
And I'm still thinking back to a time under the canyon moon
