Confused, lonely halls, sunsets
___________________________________________________________________________
Overhearing conversations when you have no one to talk too is dreadful. I keep my eyes on the moving floor.

"Dude check that girl out!" Someone from the group of boys walking behind me said.

"She's hot!" Another yells.

I lift my head up for just a second to see who they're all talking about. But I can't see because I'm short and they're all tall. I want to jump, but I don't want to make a fool of myself if I fall because my legs can't land it. I hear a familiar voice. Bella's...

"Sorry boys, but I'm taken." She tells the crowd of overly desperate boys. They all groan.

"By me." A manly voice says.

"Hey baby! What's up?" Bella's voice says again.

"Well.. Protecting you, can't let my girl get hurt. I have a question for you."

"What is it?"

"Why were you talking to that skinny loser kid before the bell rang bells?" He questions her. His grip around her is probably getting tighter now.

"I..Uh...Colton... Baby..."

"Don't 'Colton baby' me! Why were you talking to him Bella?" His voice was getting stricter and louder. But he wasn't yelling yet.

Bella remained silent for a couple of seconds while I was choking back my tears. That loser is me. I am that loser. I focused my eyes on the floor and my head was parallel to the floor. I grip my sweatshirt sleeves with my finger preparing for myself for what she may say.

"Well, you know.. I'm-Uh-" She stutters. "Just keeping my reputation clean, you know..? Besides, it was just being nice..."

"Okay. That's all I wanted to know." Colton replied.

Suddenly the crowd watching, split in two making room for the beloved couple to walk down. I automatically put my head down so that Bella or Colton won't see me.

Yet, Bella still glanced at me. I noticed she gave me a shy and sorry smile. But that wouldn't help.

I'm just a loser.

There were tears in my eyes.

I rubbed my eyes hoping that they will disappear. After several tries, they still don't.

I make way for class since the second bell rang. I honestly have no idea where I'm going. I skipped the orientation and tour. I didn't want too face my classmates yet.

I think about asking someone, but who would want to talk to me?

No one would.

I wouldn't even want to talk to myself if I was someone else.

I kick a power bar on the floor just like it was a soccer ball.

I miss playing soccer, but it's worth it if I can be skinny then.

The hall is lonely. Everyone is in their class. Everyone knew where to go. Except me. I am wandering around. Wondering where to go next. I tried looking for room 198 but I gave up. It would be to hard to look at the kids that are probably going to make my life living hell for the next year.

Like every year in middle school.

* * *

After the school day, which consisted of only three periods since I gave up trying to find my first periods classroom, I headed to the beach like I did most days after school to watch the sunset.

I stare at the yellowness that is blending into orange and red.

"Brian?"

I turn around. Who knows my name?

It is Bella.

"So... What's up? What are you doing here?" She asks me.

"Wondering if one day, things will be alright." I told her, confessing my deepest hope to her randomly.

"It will be." She tells me, trying to sound confident.

"Why are you talking to me anyways? I'm just a loser."

I walked away from her but she had her eyes locked on me.
