The rest of the drive was filled with more of Hope's stories. While Hope was talking Adam looked over smiling at Shiro squeezing his hand tightly. Shiro looked over for a second and smiled back at him. "I love you," Shiro said softly trying to keep Hope from noticing. Adam's face flushed red. You'd think after hearing that so much you'd get used to it, but not for Adam whenever Shiro said that his brain would turn to mush.
"Papa are we almost there?' Hope whined kicking her feet and snapping Adam out of his daze. "Almost. Five more minutes ok?" Adam said "You said that five minutes ago" Hope continued to whine, after all, she is four. She's going to whine. Adam turned back to look at her. She seemed like she was about to cry."Love don't cry were almost there. What about you tell me about what your learning in school." Adam suggested trying his best to distract her from crying.
"Plants.." Hope said quietly still upset. "What kind of plants?" Hope slowly started to smile ignoring how badly she wanted to cry. "Tomatoes! My favorite ones! We're seeing if soda or water helps them grow more!"
For the next five minutes, Hope rambled on about anything and everything she could with her temper tantrum long forgotten.
Once Hope saw them pull into the parking lot of the restaurant she started kicking her feet and bouncing up inland down excited to finally get out of the car. She held onto Momo for dear life not letting the little stuffed animal out of her sight.
Adam got out of the car and unbuckled Hope's car seat. Hope leaped out of the car with Momo running into the street.
"Hope get back here! You're in a parking lot you can't just run into the street like that you could get hurt!" Adam told her sternly. "Sorry..." Hope looked down at her feet. "It's ok you just got to be careful love. Okay?" Hope nodded.
They walked into the restaurant hoping there wouldn't be too long a wait, but of course, the wait was about thirty minutes, but to a four year old it felt like a lifetime. Hope was ready to break down into a puddle of tears she was tired of waiting. Sure she was being a little bratty, but she was also a four-year-old being told to wait was like talking to a wall.
Honestly, though she did take it better than most four-year-olds she never once screamed or made a scene but her parents saw the noticeable change in her energy. She was always so lively so to see how upset she was it made every parent's heartache.
She was sitting in Shiro's lap outside the restaurant with her head down and her stuffed animal hanging in her hand. Hope looked up at her father with teary eyes.
"Why can't we just go inside?" Hope whined tears coming down her face. Shiro held her closer whipping the tears off her face. "We have to wait our turn sweetheart we can go inside once they call us which I'm sure will be soon," Shiro explained softly trying to keep her from crying more.
"So much for trying to get things done huh?" Adam said playfully sitting down next to the two of them. "Don't say that we are going to get things done we just have to wait for a second. You're almost as impatient as her" Shiro said making Hope snap her head towards him pouting. "Don't look at me like that you know it's true silly girl." Shiro giggled tickling her. Hope laughed trying to push his hands away.
"Look at that beautiful smile I haven't seen you smile like that in a while." Hope's smile grew. She had completely forgotten she was upset, but even if she didn't she didn't want to dwell on something she couldn't change especially when she was with her dads.
