The sun had set, but the family remained sitting in the park eating and running around. It felt like a scene from a movie.
Hope looked up at the stars, pointing out the constellations she knew, which consisted of only the Big and Little Dipper that she still mixed around from time to time.
"Daddies, look! Look, the stars are falling!" Hope screamed. Her eyes were sparkling with wonder. "Love, they aren't stars they're-" Adam starts "Just, let her have this one," Shiro whispers, laughing quietly.
"Where are they going?" Hope runs up and down the grass, trying to keep up with the so-called stars. "Why don't you come to see for yourself? I set up the telescope just for you." Adam beamed, it's hard enough to set up a telescope, so he was pretty impressed with himself when he could do it in a fraction of the time it normally takes.
"Daddy said I'm not allowed to touch the telescope though." Hope knew damn well that her parents would kill her for messing with the telescope, and she was not about to go messing with it until she made sure it was ok.
"Yeah well, your father says a lot of things-"Shiro gasped "Rude, Hope, promise me you won't talk like that when you're older." Hope just laughed, sitting down next to her parents. "Don't touch ok, just look through here, and you'll be able to see the stars better." Adam watched Shiro guide their daughter. It was one of those moments that he never wanted to end.
"You ok, love?" Shiro's voice was hinted with concern. "Yeah, I'm great actually."
"Great, that means you can take over for me. I don't know if you noticed, but I'm not really a teacher."
"Oh trust me, I noticed." Adam pushed his glasses up and moved closer to the other two. "Papa, look! Daddy taught me how to move it!" Adam immediately disapproved of what Shiro deemed important to teach their daughter.
"I'm glad you learned something, but you should never move this ok?" Hopes face dropped. "Why not? I just learned how to use it!" Hope crossed her arms.
"I know, and I'm proud of you, but if you mess it up, it's really hard for us to fix." Adam was trying so hard not to upset Hope further, but also tell her the truth. It is really hard to reposition a telescope.
"How do I see the stars then?"
"Just look through here, don't touch it though or it will move and you won't be able to see," Adam explained moving Hope closer to him. Shiro moved next to Adam putting his head on his shoulder.
"I'm proud of us," Shiro whispered, smiling. Adam just cuddled closer to Shiro, not saying anything. "Daddies, the stares are gone! They aren't falling anymore!" Hope looked up as if trying to find them. "The showers over, love, that's all." Shiro sat up, lightly petting Hopes hair.
"When do they come back?" Hope truly didn't care about the science involved, all she cared about was watching the stares fall.
"They'll be back soon I promise, but for now, why don't we go home?" Shiro stroked Hopes hair slowly, while Adam started packing up the telescope.
Hope nodded her head, yawning. She picked up her stuffed cat and waited for her parents patiently.
