It Just Sucks, I Guess {Reddie}

   Vent oneshot

  They'd been texting all night. Richie just broke up with Conner, though he'd been planning to for a while. Their conversation went something like this after Richie told Eddie about Conner:

Eddie: So it's over then?

Richie: Yep. So back to pining.

Eddie: Pining? You just broke up with him!

Richie: Not him, Eds

Eddie: You already like someone else?!

Richie: I've liked someone else for a while. On and off again since before i even met Conner's dumb ass.

Eddie: Who?

Richie is typing..

After almost an hour of back an forth, subject changing, hints, and realization, something big happened:

Eddie: Damnit Richie, I love you

Richie: If you say no homo I might actually cry.

Eddie: For fuck sakes, yes homo

Richie: Don't get me wrong, I'm happy, but confused

Eddie: Accept my loveee

Richie: I want to. I really fucking do, but I'm scared you're doing this out of pity.

Eddie: I'm not.

Richie: Promise?

Eddie: Promise.

 They texted back and forth for a long time after that before Eddie said something..odd, but Richie liked it.

Eddie: What if

Eddie: When we're older..

Eddie: We got married?

Richie: We'd have to date first-

Eddie: I'm tired, I'm gonna go to sleep now ahahaha

Richie: Eds, c'mon really? You cant like say that then dip.

Eddie: I don't wanna ruin our friendship, ok?!

Richie: I don't either, but we already act like boyfriends and you're so important to me. Nothing could ever change that. But, if you really wanna stay friends we can

Eddie: This all happened too fast, Rich

Richie: Ok, friends it is. I'm gonna be honest with you, this really fuckin hurts me, but if it's what you want I'll do it. And don't feel bad, okay? Do what you need to.

Eddie: Let's just stay friends, maybe it'll change later in life. 

Richie: Okay.

Eddie: Good night for real this time, love ya

Richie: Yep :)

Eddie didn't realize that it's always been him. He means the most to Richie and it's more than just a crush. But what does Richie know? He's just a teenager, right? Love will come again and maybe he shouldn't be crying right now. Maybe he can't help it. Maybe love won't come again, but it probably will. He desides he's probably overreacting like everyone always says he does. For now, he'll just cry. And hope. Hope that the person he's loved most in his life, who also loves him, will come around. Sometimes the leap from friendship to more than that is more like a step, and people take steps everyday, so why can't Eddie? He thinks it's fine though. As long as Eddie is happy he can pretend to be.
