It was the night before the first day of sophomore year. I was watching a movie when I got a call. Pausing the movie, I picked up my phone and answered the call, not bothering to check the caller ID. "Hello?"

"Hello, (Y/N), are you busy?" I recognised the voice as one of the best friends and my crush.

I smiled. "Hello to you too, Stiles. Why do you ask?"

He seemed a little rushed. "Get dressed. I'm picking you up. Apparently, two joggers just found half a dead body in the woods and we're going to find the other half first".

"In the woods?" I looked outside at the full moon shining in the sky. "I can't. I have to prepare for school tomorrow," I lied.

"You can prepare after".

I looked around, trying to think of another excuse. "I.. also have to clean my house". I mentally facepalmed at my lack of good excuses.

The line was silent for a second before he spoke again. "You're a horrible liar, you know that? Fine, I'll just take Scott. I'll see you tomorrow".

"Bye". Before he hung up, I stopped him. "And Stiles, be careful".

"Yeah". He then hung up.

I looked out at the moon again before letting out a sigh of relief. It was not a good idea for a vampire to go into the woods on the night of a full moon, especially when there was a death that was obviously a werewolf attack. After all, a werewolf bite could kill a vampire.

Trying not to think about my two best friends risking their lives, I switched my movie back on.

When I got to school the next day, I decided to wait for them at the doors. It wasn't long before I saw them approaching, so I started approaching them when I heard Stiles say to Scott, "You're the cause of this, you know? Dragging me down to your nerd depths".

"Actually, I'm pretty sure that's you," I said, walking up to them. "Glad to see you both alive". I stopped when I started to smell blood. I turned to Scott in concern. "Did you get hurt?"

He nodded. "Yeah, how could you tell?"

"Intuition," I lied. "Let me see". He lifted his shirt to show me the large bandage on his hip. I furrowed my brows. "Do you know what did this?"

"I thought it might have been a wolf, but Stiles said there are no wolves in California". Stiles shook his head as well. With that, we all headed to class.

"As you all know, there indeed was a body found in the woods last night," the teacher said. Stiles winked at Scott and I rolled my eyes.

I soon got distracted by a girl just outside the school. She looked familiar, so I decided to listen to what she was saying on the phone. "Mom, three calls on my first day is a little overdoing it," the girl said. I couldn't really hear what her mother was saying but I heard her reply. "Everything except a pen! My god, I didn't actually forget a pen! Ok, ok, bye. Love you". I realised she couldn't be who I thought, but the resemblance was uncanny. She was an Argent, which meant they were back.

It wasn't long before I saw her walk in with a teacher. The teacher introduced her to be Allison Argent, which meant I was right. As soon as she sat down, Scott offered her a pen before she had a chance to ask, which I found a little weird. After that, I faced the front and focused on the class.

Eventually, Scott and Stiles had their first lacrosse practice of the season. I went to support them, even though I knew they weren't gonna be doing much playing. I watched as Scott got named 'goalie'.

Allison and Lydia soon arrived and sat right behind me. I heard Allison ask Lydia, "Who is that?" signalling to Scott.

"That's Scott McCall, he's one of my best friends," I answered her. I then turned around to face her. "I'm (Y/N), by the way".
