Ever since I had started staying with Stiles, he kept trying to get me to talk to him about why I was so afraid to go home. But every time he asked about it, I either evaded the question or changed the subject. I just wasn't ready to talk about him yet. But it made me happy to see Stiles so worried about me.
The next night, I was stocking up on blood bags because I stupidly left all of mine at my house and I still didn't want to face the man living there.
Suddenly, I got a call from Stiles. "Hey, I'm getting my car repaired, can you meet me here?"
I sighed. "Fine, but I'm really tired, so can you make it quick?" I could practically hear Stiles rolling his eyes. I couldn't help but smile as I hung up.
When I got there, I saw Stiles pacing. I could practically feel the anger radiating off of him. When he saw me, he stormed up to me. "Can you believe this guy? He said that my exhaust system needs to be replaced and I'll need a 'limited slip differential,' which will cost around fifteen hundred. I'm pretty sure all I needed was a starter!"
I gave him an amusing smile before giving him a pat on the shoulder. "I'll handle this". I walked up to the repair man, looked him in the eyes and compelled him. "You will make the correct repairs to my friend's jeep". Then I got an idea. "For free". He nodded slowly and got to work.
I turned around and walked back to Stiles, who was staring at me in wonder. "You are amazing!" he exclaimed. I smiled bashfully at the compliment.
I followed him as he went to walk out. He placed his hand on the door handle only to pull back immediately. I leaned over and saw this strange goop on his hand.
I rolled my eyes. "Wimp," I muttered as I pushed past him and opened the door for him.
It was only a second after I passed through the door that I felt me entire body go numb, starting at my hand where I'd gripped the door handle. Before I knew it, I could no longer move and I fell to the floor, Stiles quickly following.
From my position on the floor, I could still see inside the garage. Stiles and I watched as an unknown creature appeared on top of the jeep. We tried to warn him, but he didn't listen.
We were forced to watch as the creature paralyzed the repair guy and somehow lowered and jeep on top of him, eventually crushing him. Once we could move again, we called the police.
After the garage had become a crime scene, Stiles and I were being questioned by his father. I decided to stick to the half-truth Stiles told his father as the latter wasn't apart of this world.
"Can I go now, please?" Stiles asked impatiently once the police had finished interrogating us.
After a moment of hesitation, the sheriff nodded. "Sure, but not in your jeep. We're gonna have to impound it". Stiles straightened up. "Sorry kid, evidence".
I stepped forward and put a hand on his shoulder. "I'll take him home". Then we walked away.
On the way to his house, we called Scott and told him what had happened. "You okay?" Scott asked, concerned about us.
I nodded. "Yeah, we're fine".
"You were right. It's not like you," Stiles explained to him. "It's eyes were almost... reptilian. But there was something about him". I titled my head in curiosity. "You know when you see a friend in a halloween mask, but all you can actually see are their eyes? And you feel like you know them, but you just can't figure out who it is?"
"Are you saying you know who it is?" Scott asked.
Stiles shook his head. "No, but I think it knew me".
