An Embarassing Way to Meet (Haikyuu!! Ennotana Fan Fiction)

Chapter 7

"Marry me, please!" The words hung in the air for a few seconds, accompanied with silence.

"Nope," the girl said. And with that, Tanaka froze and fell. Literally and figuratively. But mostly onto the floor.

The remainder of the team walked in with confused faces, trying not to crack up, but still unsure of the situation.

A few minutes later, the captain decided to start practice.

The school day dragged by, and the fact that we had practice in the morning didn't really help. I felt like Coach was putting more pressure than usual because of the Inter High.

"Hey!" I heard a voice yell. I looked up, and it was Tanaka.

"Hey," I said, clearly less enthusiastic.

As he sat down, he asked me, "What do you think of the new manager?"

"Eh," I replied, "She's pretty, but I'm not as crazy as you about her."

"Oh. Yeah," he said, scratching the back of his head while smiling and letting out a small huff.

We started eating in awkward silence.

"So," I said, trying to ease the mood, "How have your classes been so far?"

"Not too bad, just a bit bland," he said. "I don't know if I'll be able to stay awake next period, though. How about you?"

"I'm just a bit tired. Today is just pretty slow and it's a bit hard to pay attention," I told him, still trying to keep a positive tone.

Kinoshita entered the room, and luckily Tanaka's back was facing the door because he just smiled at me and slowly backed away from the door and into the hall. I slammed my forehead on my desk out of embarrassment.  I could feel eyes on me, but their aura disappeared quickly as I raised my head.

I looked around, but everything was pretty much what it was like when I looked away. After a minute or so, Nishinoya, Narita, and Kinoshita came into the room.

"Hi," Kinoshita said as he sat down. Did he really think he was going to get away with this?

"Hey," I said back. I looked at how we were seated, and Kinoshita and Narita were sitting away from each other.

"So," I said, "Who wants to play 5 in 5?"

"What the heck is that?" Narita said, his mouth mostly full.

"So, one person asks another person five questions in five seconds, and if the person being asked the questions are telling the truth, they shouldn't have to hesitate." I don't even know how I was able to say that in one breath.

"I'm in," Nishinoya said after swallowing his food.

"I'll join," Tanaka said, practically done with his lunch.

"Sounds fun, I'll do it," Narita said.

Kinoshita stayed silent. And he gave me the look. That's when I knew I messed up.

"Come on Kinoshita," Narita said, "What's the worst that could happen?"

"Fine," he said with a sigh, and his emotions leaked out from his face.

"Anybody want to go first? I could do the asking first," I said, trying to escape getting asked.

"I'll go!" Nishinoya volunteered, "I've got nothing to hide. I'll be totally transparent."
