Chapter Thirty

8/22 Monday, Daytime

"Hey, your friends are here!"

Sojiro yells out to Akira as he finishes changing clothes and he goes down with Morgana and sees everyone is here.

"So you're finally up, huh? Don't slack off just cause you're on summer vacation." Boss said grumpy that Akira was sleeping in. 

"Yo, you look tired." Ryuji said and Akira rubs his eyes and laughs a little,

"You have no idea."

"We've made ourselves at home." Ann said with a smile and then they hear the news,

"Late last night, it was discovered that someone has tampered with the hacker group Medjed's website. The site's main page now displays what is thought to be the mark belonging to the Phantom Thieves. Moreso, the personal information of Japanese man, a possible Medjed member, was illegally publicized."

"Aren't these the guys people have been up in arms about?"

"Medjed has yet to issue an official reply. Furthermore, their previously announced cleanse of Japan has remained unimplemented for now. Some speculate that they have taken this series of events seriously and ultimately canceled their plan."

Everyone looked at one another and were smiling and making little cheers. Sojiro notices this, 

"What're you all smirking about?"

"Oh, nothing." Akira said and then Sojiro comments on it,

"Well stop it. You're gonna drive away all my customers."

"After the commercial break, we will be asking guests from various fields about this turn of events."

"But there ain't any customers."

"Can it. My customers are on vacation too." Sojiro tells him annoyed and Ryuji backs off but with a sudden realization of something else.

"Oh crap! I just realized our break's almost over!"

"There are still ten days left." Yusuke tells him and Ann jumps in,

"I wanna go somewhere, but we can't just leave Futaba-chan alone."

"Some things still concern me too, like that...research," 

Makoto whispers the last part and everyone agrees. They hear the door open and see Futaba.

"Oh? Did you just get up?"

Futaba nods and Makoto greets her,

"Good morning."

Futaba hides behind Akira and Yusuke notices,

"It seems she's cautious of us."

"Hey, why don't we go upstairs? If any customers come, she'll be even more afraid."

"I believe that is the best course of action for her." Eliza says as Sojiro ushers her to join,

"Why don't you go with them, Futaba? Have fun. It's about time my regulars show up loitering around my store."

They all get up, gather their belongings and then go upstairs to Akira's room. 

 After Eliza finishes telling Sae about Futaba, she seemed confuse.

"So the phantom thieves only stole the heart of Futaba Sakura? And Medjed was in turn defeated by her real-world hacking abilities? This does correlate to the facts as we know them. If you're telling the truth, then Wakaba Isshiki didn't commit suicide. Did a third party target her life with the goal of destroying her research? Wakaba's death was two years ago... That also coincides with when the incidents started occurring. Does this other Metaverse user that Madarame and Kaneshiro mentioned really exist?"
