December 4th:
Noelle P.O.V
Yet another winter morning. Why oh why are you torturing me like this! I’m not a very big fan of the winter to start with, but the depressing state that the English weather had been in for weeks, seemed even more depressing this morning as I walked to work. You might think that I love Christmas when you hear my name, but no. That was my parents who gave me the name. I hate it. It’s yet another reminder of them and their love for the holidays. Especially Halloween and Christmas. You see my name is Noelle Tinsel Bristol, I’m 18 years old and my birthday is the 25th of December. I have longish dark brown hair that falls in loose curls down my back and clear deep blue eyes. I’m from Birmingham and I live with my brother. His name is Halo, since he was born on Halloween. He looks exactly like the boy version of me, just taller. Our parents died on Christmas Eve two years ago so we don’t exactly like celebrating it anymore.
As I walked through the doors at the Starbucks cafe that I work in, I noticed a girl sitting alone by the window with a cup of coffee in her hands and a huge duffle bag next to her. She looked broken and just as alone as I felt that morning when I thought of my parents, so I decided to go talk to her before my shift started. I always came in way too early so that I could get some coffee before work began.
“Hi there, I’m Noelle, what’s your name?” I sat down at the chair across from hers and put my coffee cup on the table. She looked up at me with huge bright green doe eyes. “Simona... Why are you talking to me? No one ever does!” I was shocked to say at least. She looked like a cool person with her black Sleeping With Sirens hoodie that was way too big on her tiny frame and her bright red hair pulled back into a messy bun with a few loose bits falling in her face. “You seemed like you needed someone to talk to!” I replied with a shrug. “Thanks. It’s just... You are the first person besides my brother Logan, to talk to me for years.” “That’s sad. Why don’t people talk to you? You seem like an amazing person!” just as I said that, some tacky Christmas song started playing loudly, making both me and Simona crinkle. “Oh God I hate that song! And thanks by the way!” “I know right! What’s with the annoying Christmas songs in here?” “I have no idea.”
We talked for about an hour, where she told me about her brother Logan who was the only one of her five siblings that talked to her, but who had died in a car accident last week and I told her about my parents and Halo. After a while we decided that the last thing any of us needed was the joy that Christmas always bring, so we decided to run away. When my parents died they left me and Halo a little cottage in the forest near Galashields, and it was far enough away from everything, so we decided to go there. She was from Coventry, but ran away from home the day Logan died.
I got up to finish my shift before going home and pack. On the way home we talked even more and I was really starting to like Sim.
(A/N Just some background knowledge on the two characters that will turn up later in the story. They turn up around the 14th!)
