At the age of twelve...
Five hundred and nine tallies.
Six hundred and sixty three tallies.
Seven hundred and ninety one tallies.
Moondrift really was becoming a monster. Or what her mother and uncle would say, 'a legend'. Families looked at her with fear in their heartbroken eyes. Dragon's writhing in her deadly talons. Little ones screaming for dear life.
But she couldn't do anything about it. She would slit their throats no matter how much they'd plead for mercy, her eyes as cold as winter and so was her heart.
Blame the NightWings, she'd think to all the dragons she's killed so far, they're the ones giving me these missions. I just obey them.
Starseeker sighed after the latest tally. Her daughter's wings were ruined with dry blood, new blood and pouring blood.
"Oh, snowball," she said to Moondrift with her voice breaking. "What have you become?"
Moondrift looked down. "I'm what you made me, mother."
Before Starseeker could say anything else, Nightfall interrupted, "Your mission to kill the IceWing Princesses. Are you ready for that?"
The assassin gave him a fierce look.
"As ready as I'll ever be,"

Moondrift didn't even look back as she flew off to the Ice Kingdom. Her father had stolen one of the three bracelets that allow travellers to get past the Great Ice Wall. Moondrift had put it around her wrist for when she needed to sneak into Queen Glacier's palace.
Blizzards started forming as flurries flew past her ears. She crept in the depths of the snow and waited until it was dark, where she could soar into the air and turn completely invisible with the illusion of a perfect star-filled night sky.
I don't want to do this, she realised. I'm killing royalty, and I didn't even know what they have done to deserve this. Why can't they just explain it to me?
She couldn't get the reason inside their minds somehow, it bothered her a lot for someone to have a secret and it doesn't even appear in their minds.
They've probably found out a way to block their thoughts from me.
She let out a low growl and went deeper in the snow, but still had her eyes on Queen Glacier's palace. Even though she wasn't really willing to do this, she had to or else bad consequences will occur to her.
They'd probably torture me or something, she guessed. They seem like those types of dragons.
The sun slowly went down to slumber as night came quicker than Moondrift had expected. The moon rose higher into the sky, its light surpassing the palace as the ice reflected off of the snow.
Moonlight entered her glittering eyes, her ears twitching vigorously as she heard talons sink into the white fluff quietly. She growled silently as the talon steps came louder with each step.
She slowly slid her dagger out from the strap and held it close to her side, ready to strike when she saw the first IceWing.
You were taught how IceWings fight, she reminded herself. You'll beat them easily.
But what she wasn't expecting were chains lashing out from under the snow and leaped at her arms and wrapped themselves around her.
"ARGH!" Moondrift hissed. The chains were extremely cold, like frostbite squeezing itself around her tighter and tighter every time she roared in anger.
Icy figures now stood in front of her with smug faces. The IceWing that was leading frowned. His eyes were as blue as Moondrift's and his light blue scales were literally glowing in the dark, just like Moondrift's scales.
Her eyes caught on a silver necklace with one circle on his neck and a silver bracelet with carved patterns and embedded sapphires on it.
He was quite handsome, but he looked both infuriated and accomplished at the same time.
He flared his wings and bellowed, "Stop right there, assassin,"
His voice was soft and gentle, but she could tell he was forcing himself to sound mean and scary.
"I am Prince Snowstorm, and by order of my mother, Queen Glacier, you are under arrest."
I'm such a bad friend, I haven't even finished reading Unshattered or started reading this. I just read like the last sentence of this chapter and squealed. SNOWSTORM! The author is obsessed with him, and Moondrift.
