Chapter 22: Uncertainties

"Who's that? Nandito na ba mga anak mo? Gabi na ah. Kanina ko pa tinatawagan si Siegfried, ring lang ng ring, si Athena naman, naka off ang phone?"

"It was Athena..."

"Oh, Saan na daw sila."

She saw her husband sighed. Napakunot ang noo niya. Something's not right. May biglang bumundol na kaba sa dibdib niya, the kind of fear that made her want to run to her children and protect them with her life.

"Something's wrong? No. Something is wrong. What is it, RJ?"

"Come..."

Hinatak siya ng asawa niya and they went out on their balcony. She is back hug by her husband while she's holding the railing. She leans at her husband's chest, closes her eyes, and savor the warmth of having him this close. She feels her husband's heartbeat, arms wrapping her waist way too tighter than usual.

"You smell so good, love."

"Hmmmm..."

"I love you...so much, Maine..."

She slowly untangles from his embrace and then faces him, looks him in the eye, kisses his eyes, nose, cheeks, and he meets her lips halfway, and they shared a passionate kiss. It is the kind of kiss that takes you to an ultimate high, one with the clouds and slowly, oh so slowly drifted you back to land with a longing to have more. It happens all the time.

"I love you more, husband...and do you know your kisses are so damn special I wanted more and more and more..."

She saw him smile, dimples deepening.

"...but enough of distracting me, love, tell me what's happening..."

She saw how his husband's smile turns into grim. The play of emotions from desiring her, to anger, to love, and then determination...

He kisses her forehead and once again wraps her in his supple arms.

"RJ..."

She uttered with determination too to uncover what's bothering her husband.

"Papunta ng Davao si Athena..."

Napakunot noo siya at bumundol muli ang kakaibang kaba sa dibdib niya.

"Davao? Did something happen? What happened? Is Athena fine? Si Siegfried nasaan?

"Love, love...wag kang magpanic, please..."

"Anong wag magpanic? Sabihan mo na kasi ako anong nangyari!"

"Someone chased them on their way to the airport kanina. As planned, pag ganong sitwasyon, Siegfried went to a safe house. I had to direct the security to take the necessary actions, pinasama ko na si Athena kay JD. Sa Pampanga sila, naka antay na ang private plane doon...nung naabutan mo ako, I was talking to JD and Athena...they're about to depart to Davao..."

"RJ?"

"Sssshhhh, everything is fine Maine, please, don't worry too mu—"

"How can you ever say that, RJ? That's my daughter there! Oh God, my Athena...Oh God...and Siegfried? Where's my son?"

"Somewhere safe. Hindi yun uuwi dito. He's safe. They're safe love, and if it makes you less worried, bukod sa security details na nag aabang kina JD sa Davao. I hired more people para sundan sila kung nasaan man sila pumunta. Kaya please lang, wag ka na mag panic..."
