• Moon Gang Tae's POV

It has been exactly a week already since I last saw her.

Why is it that I'm always being put in such situation? I mean, I was good before she came into my life...into our lives.

But why let me experience something so surreal and then suddenly take it away from me? Why, dear universe, why?

I take my cup of coffee from the cafeteria to my favorite windy spot outside OK Psychiatric Hospital. Here, I enjoy the silence and the time to think deeply about things.

I was about to take a sip when I heard a voice approaching me.

"You seem a bit different lately."

I didn't have to turn my head to know whose voice it is.

Calm, shy, and worried.

So different from my Mun-yeong...I mean...from Ko Mun-yeong.

"I didn't know that you noticed it, Joo Ri."

Nam Joo Ri is one of my close friends in the hospital. We studied in the same elementary school, so maybe that's the reason why she can see the changes in me when others can't.

She stood next to me and also enjoyed the sight of the waves crashing onto the shore.

"I'm just here if you need someone to talk to. I promise I won't judge you."

"Wow, that sounded as if I already did something wrong." I chuckle at her offer. But in my heart, it was reassuring to know that someone is there for me.

As much as I want to tell her what's bothering me, I'm having second thoughts. It's almost a guarantee that she will think I'm crazy.

Actually, to tell her that I got someone pregnant is easier and effortless.

But to disclose that I'm missing a ghost...a soul...an entity? She'll think I've got loose screws in my head. So yes, she would definitely judge me.

Is it worth mentioning? What if she would understand? And if not, what's there to lose?

"Just letting you know that I'm serious with my offer." She sounded shy but sincere.

I am also aware of her feelings for me. She has subtly let me know about it many times, by the way she shows her care and concern, and that one time when she accidentally confessed her feelings when she got drunk.

I'm flattered but there's nothing more to it. My heart didn't skip a beat. It just felt like someone told me that my hair color is black.

Looking at her, she's pretty and sweet and has all the good qualities that men normally find amusing in a girl.

But maybe that's the reason why love exists. You don't feel it with just anyone. Well I'm not saying this because I've felt it already. From what I've heard, it would literally make your heart skip a beat.

Have I experienced that already? I'm confident that I haven't--Nononono. Wait. Okay I'm going to cut such thought.

I need to refocus and enjoy the moment and start accepting that Ko Mun-yeong has already decided to walk out of my life...I mean, out of the house.

"Joo Ri, if you're serious with your offer, why don't we have a light drink in my new house?"

"Finally, you're inviting me! I've been bugging you about it and I never thought you would invite me over!"

"Guess this is the perfect time." I forced a smile. Am I making the right decision? I hope so.

"I have one condition--don't allow me to drink more than one bottle of beer."

"Don't worry, I want you to be able to drive back and arrive safely in your house too. Consider it just like a welcome drink as you're my first guest. By the way, I have a request..."

"I'm game with anything!"

"Don't dash your way out of the house, whatever happens."

...

I can see the fear in her eyes as she studies the chandelier, the ceiling, the stairs, the century-old feel of the house.

Her smile disappeared the second she stepped foot inside the mansion.

"Joo Ri? You okay?"

"Uhmmm...yeah...Yeah!" She's not good in faking a cheerful tone.

"Welcome to our house!" I open my arms wide, as if I've welcomed her to a modern looking apartment.

"It's...it's nice." She still can't get her eyes off the eeriness of the place.

"Just to let you know, we're not yet early for Halloween. I really got the place looking like this. Nurse Jang mentioned a really low price so it was really hard to pass up on the chance."

"Ahhh...Nurse Jang. How..how did she end up offering this to you?"

"I mentioned to her before that I was looking for a place."

"Okay, I got it. Where's your dining area?"

I usher her to the big table and prepare our beer and chips.

"You okay with having beer before dinner?"

"Yeah, no problem. Besides, I'll only have one right?"

"Kurae! One only for you. Cheers!"

I raise my can of Hite and it clinked with hers.

She was about to drink it when she threw her head back suddenly. The can floated and poured the beer all over her.

"Aya!! Someone's pulling my hair!!!"
