It was Cassie's 15th birthday. She was on the victor's tour, alongside the other winning tribute, Finnick. She sat on her bed in her room on the train, facing the huge window that showcased all the different types of trees as the train passed them.
She would spend her 15th birthday honoring the dead male victor of her very own district. She would thank whoever was up there that she wasn't alone though. She had Effie and Haymitch, and most importantly Finnick.
She only knew Finnick for a short amount of time, but it felt as if he was always in the girl's life. She knew she loved him, but she didn't know in what way, for she was too young to be thinking about that sort of thing.
He was certain though. He loved her the moment he saw her. He loved her more than anything in the world. His crisp feelings towards her made him wonder if it was fate that brought them together to win the games. Or maybe it was his young boyish mind making up scenarios that just resulted in good luck.
"Happy birthday, Cassidy," Finnick smiled, coming into her room holding a box wrapped in gold wrapping paper.
"Finnick," she smiled. "What's this?"
She hugged the boy as she gently took the box that he handed to her. She ripped open it, wondering what was inside as it revealed itself to be a gold neckless. "Oh, Finnick, you shouldn't have. Thank you so much."
He smiles as she lifts up her long brown shimmery hair, indicating for him to put it on her. "I wish I could've done more to celebrate, but unfortunately this was the best I could do."
She grabbed his hands which were shaking with nervousness, a thing he always felt when he was around the girl. "This is the best gift I have ever gotten. It's beautiful."
The two went back to gazing out the window. Silence filled the room, and all that was heard was the heartbeat of the two victors. She rested her head on his shoulder as he stared at the girl before him, not taking his eyes off of her.
"What do we do when we get back home?" Cassie asks the boy she was finding comfort on.
"We write to each other. We have to. I'll try and come see you every chance I get. But we have to write to each other. It's the only way."
"What if we never see each other again?" Cassie asks, her eyes saddened at the thought.
"We will. I promise we will."

The train came to a stop, arriving in the Capitol to begin training. Haymitch and Effie walked off first, followed by Cassie, Katniss, and Peeta. Plenty of guards stood before them, at every entrance and at every possible way of escaping.
They made their way into the building and into a specially designed glass elevator that sky rocketed to the very top floor where the district 12 headquarters were placed.
