THERE WAS A TIME when Cassie Abernathy knew of the dangers of the games and what it was like to watch the people she loved die in front of her. Being reaped for the 65th annual hunger games was not a part of her memories she exactly wanted to remember. They had sixty seconds to stand on their metal circles before it got down to one and the bloodbath began. Sixty seconds to think of how she was going to die first. Dehydration? A knife in the back? Poison? There was no time to think of what was going to happen. Her first ally was a strong, cunning 14-year-old boy who went by the name of Finnick Odair. He guided her and taught her how to use a knife, but to his surprise she was as skilled as a ninja with a machete.
The 65th annual Hunger Games was the first games with two victors. Fortunately for Cassie, those two were her and her new found friend Finnick. After Katniss and Peeta were the newly found two person victors, things changed. And not for the better.
