The police station was chaos. It was nearly midnight on a Friday night in the city of Towson. And this had became the new normal for the past month. This meant, for me at least, overtime. When all of this chaos started happening, I was asked if I would be willing to work some extra hours. And of course I agreed immediately, even if I wasn't doing my usual job.

I was a homicide detective, but when I worked overnight, I did whatever the hell the graveyard Captain, Carl Watts, told me to. And right now, it meant getting him his coffee.

"BARNES!" Captain Watts shouted from his office. "Where are you?"

I rolled my eyes and stirred the sugar into his coffee. Captain Watts was a good Captain, he just wasn't as laid back as Captain Butler was. When I first agreed to this, I thought I would be helping on cases, or logging evidence, or working at the booking or reception desk, not being Captain Watts' secretary.

"BARNES!" Captain Watts screeched, once again. All of the people in the room jumped. The overnight crew was used to his outbursts, but still were surprised because they never knew when he was going to go off.

"Coming!" I shouted back. I rushed back into his office, making sure not to spill his coffee all over my white sweater.

This was not how I thought I would spend my Friday night. It was mid-March and the snow was just finally beginning to melt from this winter. We had planned go to a drive-in theatre and watch a double feature with my boyfriend, Jihwan, better known as NJ.

Jihwan is the leader of Towson's most powerful mafia, Gabos. It was a crazy story of how we got together and these past five months of us dating has been something out of a romantic film. Jihwan is perfect for me. He's a gentleman, a sweetheart, a pervert, all at the correct times. We can talk about everything that comes to our minds. He always wants to take care of me, and spend time with me.

But of course there were some things that I didn't like about him. Like how I have to hide a lot of who he is from my family. How he runs illegal business (which I don't think about often). Or how he threw tantrums when I didn't give him his way.

Like when Captain Butler asked me to work tonight, I had to cancel our plans. He, of course, threw a tantrum because that's just what he does. But, in the end, he told me to enjoy my night and that we can go some other time.

I walked into Captain Watts' office and placed his coffee in front of him. He looked up from his paperwork to the mug.

"What took you so long?" Captain Watts asked.

"I had to wait for the coffee to finish brewing," I told him.

"Well, at least you're here," Captain Watts said as he reached for his mug and took a sip of his coffee. "There's been a shooting at a nightclub, it's all hands on deck. So get your ass out there."

"Really?" I asked. "Great. I'll get going. Send me the address."

I rushed out of his office to my desk. I grabbed my wallet, coat, and keys and rushed to the parking lot in the back of the station. I ran to my car, a Christmas present from Jihwan, and hopped in the driver's seat. I turned on the car and blasted the heat as I slipped my black trench coat on. I checked my phone for the address that Captain Watts was supposed to send me.. The nightclub was called Silver Platter, and wasn't too far away.

I quickly made my way to the nightclub, turning on my siren and the lights on the visors on. Cars moved out of my way to let me pass as I sped to the crime scene.

I made it to the nightclub in what should be a record time. There were already ambulances, police cars, and other detective's cars on the scene. There were plenty of pedestrians around, many of them dressed to spend the evening making bad decisions.
