Chapter 7: His Compromise

In the interrogation room Captain Butler and Captain Watts stood against the far wall, Romeo stood directly behind Matteo, NJ was to the left of Crown, and I stood in front of the closed door.

No one was speaking to each other.. NJ was glaring down at Matteo and Romeo was analyzing Crown. The two younger men looked between me and the Captains. The Captains just stared at the two kids.

"Did you two come up with a compromise?" I spoke up, nervous. If no one was going to speak, I would have to start.

"We're giving Tomorrow the land they need to begin working on the Westside," Matteo said as professionally as he could muster with his mentor behind him. "We did injure one of their high members, it's only fair."

"And we're giving the Strays some undercover help whenever they need it," Crown said. "And we're also going to be working together to figure out who took that shot to begin the gun fight."

"Sounds good," I said happily. "Seems like we can all go home notwthat-"

"No," Romeo said. "We need to figure out why you all brought in so many people to fix only a small scuffle."

He turned his cold glare from me to the Captains. Butler looked away to Watts. Watts sent a quick glare the other before turning to Romeo.

"We thought it was only a petty gang war," Captain Watts said, obviously not afraid of Romeo. "We didn't know they worked under the two of you."

"They don't work underneath us, we mentor them. We don't pay them," NJ said with a roll of his eyes. "Try to be more accurate, Captain."

"My misunderstanding," Captain Watts said, not sounding sorry at all. I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't care at all. "We also don't want other gangs to strike tonight, so I brought some extra bodies in to patrol the streets."

"Is that why this woman is here?" Romeo asked, pointing a thumb towards me. "Extra body?"

I guess he didn't know who I was. Jihwan probably didn't tell him.

"No, she's here because she knows a lot about how your business works," Captain Butler spoke up for the first time.

"How does she know that?" Romeo asked. His eyes began to grow cold and chilling.

"I'm NJ's girlfriend," I said the same time Jihwan said, "She's my girlfriend."

All the coldness that was in his eyes left and realization was replaced. He looked between Jihwan and I, his mouth falling open.

"This is the Anastasia you've been telling me about?" Romeo shouted to Jihwan. "Dude, why don't you slide those panties off and beat that pussy, you coward? Who cares if she's into you or not, she's hot."

"You better shut your mouth, Romeo. No one tells me what to do in my relationship. And nobody, ever, talks about my girl like that," NJ growled.

"Well someone has to do it, since you won't get me in bed," I said.

"You're still mad at me?" NJ asked.

"Why don't you two talk about that in private?" Captain Butler asked. "There's more pressing matters we need to deal with."

"We can assist in your investigation," Captain Watts said to Crown and Matteo. "Our special crimes unit would be more than happy to help." The two nodded once. Watts then looked at Jihwan. "But Detective Barnes brought something to our attention before the two of you arrived."

"What is it, Ana?" Jihwan asked, turning to face me.

"I was just thinking that if someone else took that first shot, they wanted to start a war," I said.
