Night was fast approaching and there were no further encounters with other party riders. Edan's whole body had been under the control of his galloping horse. His lungs were burning from all the cold, fast paced air he had inhaled, very different to the environment where he had been rudely forced out of.
"How do you know that you will find what you seek in Kirjuri?" Edan wanted to understand exactly what the King was after.
"I usually get what I want! I know that many Suncycles have passed with what the scribes would have us believe is peace, but all they have actually done is try and keep the truth and knowledge away from us to try to make us seem stupid."
"Why do you want to fight now?"
"Because of you! You inspired me, a mere boy, young, unlearned and yet full of wants and needs. If you are our only future, being the greedy, young, spoilt children you are, what are we going to be left with? Now is the time to shape tomorrow, there won't be a coalition in the future. You don't even take your heritage seriously."
"Do you think that you can be immortal?"
"What is immortality? We live looking for immortality, but it is not in the existence of being, but the ability to live long beyond our passing over. It is about leaving a legacy behind, a legacy that defines the very best in you. Allowing others to be able to cherish in your deeds and your achievements, as you unselfishly accomplish these for them and not yourself."
"Hurting some for the sake of others? And in any way, it is unnaturally sustainable for all eternity. The only way everyone can remember you is if you are a God."
"You are wrong and right in many ways, but it doesn't matter to me what you think about this. All I want is the right of passage to the SoverI city."
"I don't even know if I can grant it to you."
"You will have to! You don't have a choice."
"You know that the biggest legacy you leave behind is going to be your children. What values are you teaching them with your tyranny?"
"I guess you are better than me, or your father for that matter. He must be so proud of his runaway son?"
"You have no right to judge me..."
"But yet I can"
The King turned his horse and rode away, leaving Edan standing angrily on his own. Edan felt that he had to protect Aden and his actions, even though at times he did not agree with Aden's actions. The King gave the order to set up camp and the men began assembling the tepees. A large bonfire was lit and it was rather intimidating. Some of the men sat around the bonfire and were carving meat from the carcasses of a good few deer. Some men were sharpening their knives and others were painting their faces, while chanting ancient songs.
As the evening drew in the darkness, Edan tried to console himself with pleasant thoughts of his friendship and life that he had lost. He thought to himself how everything was slowly shifting out of control, how everything he wanted to achieve seemed so far out of reach now.
The noise around him was growing louder and the men had been drinking heavily. Edan turned towards the campfire with his head resting on the ground. The flames danced in his eyes, the smell of food did not appeal to him at all and before he knew it he was fast asleep.

They stood before Kirjuri and felt insignificant due to its daunting size. Their excitement had dwindled and negative thoughts surrounding their plan began creeping in once more. The day was gone and it was too late for them to continue. The city was closed, no windows or doors were seen open and it stood silent in the night.
