King Aris had a stretching unease overwhelm his whole body when inspecting the remains of the Mohan clan's temporary camp site. The fire had been long put out, but the evidence of which direction they the Mohan had travelled in was clear. The challenge would be bridging the gap without raising their alarm of being followed. King Aris chose 6 of his best riders and sent them ahead of the remainder troops. They were instructed to only interfere if absolutely necessary and to leave trails behind so that they could easily be found.
"Sire", a tall sturdy man called out.
"Yes", replied the King. His words were filled with pain, the worst case scenario that he could imagine would be if his troops and those of the Mohan were staring at two versions of his son. It would be obvious to all that unnatural powers would have been at play to make this possible. This would endanger his and his son's reign, but worst of all their lives.
"Sire", the voice prompted. "I would like to know if you are preparing for battle. As you know, the peace has been kept for a long while and there is indeed no excuse for King Mohan's cunning betrayal to your family with the kidnapping of your son. The men and I are prepared to fight for you, but we need to know your intentions so that we can prepare for what may come."
"You have been loyal to me ever since we were kids, Lord Adrian, and I am pleased to have you by my side and at the expression of your loyalty to me. To be quite frank, as a King I have always been trained to know how to respond to certain types of questions in varying situations. In this particular circumstance I find myself puzzled. There is little concrete proof and I think a tired mind cannot make sound or hasty decisions!"
"You are right, Sire. I will wait for you to let me know of your decision. The Mohan temperament is volatile and if everything we believe is indeed true, they will be prepared for the worst eventuality. All I ask is that we do the same."
"We will indeed need to be ready for all eventualities, you are right. The threat looming at camp Titus and now this, what must people be thinking and feeling? I for one, feel the world has turned upside down. Things have begun spiralling out of control and I have no idea why. I was planning on having a quiet retirement to my duties and letting my son take over all of the adventures of the future. I guess my job has not come to an end just yet. Yet my reign has never really been quiet, wished I could have had far fewer worries. I guess it is the fate of the Gods."
"Sire, all those who are awarded struggles receive them because they are best equipped to handle them. It is part of our life's journey, to learn and appreciate all our lessons."
"So be it then."
"I will leave you to rest Sire, call on me when you wish."
"Good Night, Lord Adrian."
The King's tent had been pitched and he entered it, yet he could not rest and remained pacing and thinking. It felt as if he had been following himself. He eventually grew weary of his worries and lay his head on his canopy and tried to take the weight off his mind by allowing a few brief moments of nothingness to take over his mind. Either way a resolution to all of this would have to come.
The King had wanted to share his burdens with Adrian, but his shameful secrets would have to be concealed for now. Mohan was willing to jeopardize everything to rule all the tribes, perhaps King Mohan knew more than he was letting on about camp Titus.
Once one tribe breaks away, others are immediately impacted. The relationships were formed on fragile grounds and on the basis that all would work together to be unified as one. The Glendower tribe were in coalition because of the Erion tribe joining, Erion joined because the Apirites did and so on. Family ties bound them long ago, honour played a major role and doubt was always negotiated away. But what may have been true then was certainly not true now.
