"Let's play truth or dare," Elsie suggests after the movie credits roll. I stretch my arms above my head and stand up to leave the room but she stops me. "Where do you think you're going, Missy?"
"Outside to read."
"I don't think so. Sit your butt back down."
I sit back down next to Ken with a groan and I see that I'm not the only one who isn't pleased by this stupid idea. What are we, teenagers?
"If you want, we can just bail," Ken offers and I shake my head.
"I won't hear the end of it if we do."
"Who wants to start?" Elsie says and I immediately pipe up.
"I will," I volunteer, wanting to get the game over with.
Elsie polishes off the remaining wine from the bottle she was drinking from and sets it on the coffee table that sits between us. Elsie and Marcus are to the left on one loveseat, Ken and I are in the middle on a three-person seater that is facing the chimney and the television, and Bianca and Dex are on the right side of the table on another loveseat.
I lean forward and spin the bottle. When it finally stops spinning it lands on Marcus.
"Truth or dare?" I ask him.
"Truth."
I decide to go easy on him and ask him what age he had his first kiss and he tells us he was just ten when he had his first kiss. He spins next and the bottle lands on Dex. Dex also goes for truth. Marcus asks him if he's ever done anything illegal and Elsie immediately perks up at that, wondering just what her baby brother has done. He admits to drinking underage and smoking pot, but aside from that, he says he's been a law-abiding citizen, which pleases Elsie.
Dex spins the bottle next and it lands on Ken. I swallow nervously wondering just what he'll make him do or say. Ken is the first brave soul to take a dare but I hate that Dex is the one who gets to dare him. I don't trust him not to make him do something he may not want to do.
"I dare you to kiss, Bianca. And I mean a full-on kiss with tongue and everything," Dex tells Ken, no doubt hoping to piss me off, but I don't react. He can try and bait me all he wants but I'm not falling for his game.
I turn to Ken and squeeze his leg, reassuring him that I don't mind.
"You're okay with this?" Ken asks me and I nod, pressing my lips to his.
"This is just a game," I remind him. "You have to do it," I tell him and he nods just as Bianca stands up and walks over to our couch and looks at me with an apologetic look.
"It's okay," I reassure her and scoot over, making room for her so she can sit between Ken and I.
I look over at Dex and see that he's loving what is happening. I shake my head at him, not believing that he is using Bianca in this way. She doesn't deserve it.
I turn back to Ken and Bianca and watch just as she leans into him and kisses him. The room goes silent and we just watch as they start with a slow kiss that goes from zero to a hundred real quick. They both forget they have an audience and kiss like their life depends on it.
I turn to Elsie and see that she's getting all hot and bothered and I don't blame her. Ken and Bianca have some great chemistry and I have this feeling Dex is regretting this right about now. I bet he did not see this coming. I didn't but I sure am enjoying the show.
"Okay, that's enough," Dex finally says and I grin, loving that it irked him. The moment Bianca pulls away from Ken and walks back to Dex's side, I close the distance between us and kiss Ken, showing him and Dex how little I care about what just happened.
